Does anyone CD?

DH and I have been talking about the possibility of cloth diapering at least part time. I didn't know if any of you ladies had any experience on the matter. There seem to be so many different types and options, how do you chose? Do you use a service to clean them, or wash them yourself?

I'm also going to ask on the eco-friendly board, but I didn't know if any of you ladies in the area had any experience.

TIA!

Re: Does anyone CD?

  • I personally have not, but know many women that have.  i have always heard good things about Fuzzie Bunz.  The woman also washed their own with a homemade soap recipe.  The Daily Green from what I understand has great information regarding this!

  • I've been CDing Roman since he was about 6 weeks old & plan to CD Max once he's born.  I started out w/ Bum Genius 3.0s for Roman (they're One Size, so they grew w/ him).  I now make & sell my own, which is what Roman wears now.  I'm trying out a bunch of different types w/ Max- All in Ones, prefolds, fitteds, etc.  Here are some good links:

Here's a link for finding a detergent that works well:

These aren't mainstream, so they're not on the above list, but I HIGHLY recommend these detergents:

I had used Crunchy Clean for over a year & recently discovered Rockin Green & it is AWESOME.

Good luck w/ everything!  There is also a CD store in Ann Arbor- Tree City Diapers.

  • I don't, but I've heard there's a great place in Ann Arbor that deals w/CD.  I don't have a name, but maybe the city will help in your search.

  • If you live near Ann Arbor, you should stop in at The Little Seedling which is an amazing store for cloth diapers.  They have great classes about cloth diapering (you can go to their website and check their calendar - I think the website is still www.treecitydiapers.com) or you can just go in on your own and they will tell you everything you need to know.  I absolutely love that store.

We wash our own diapers every other day.  Generally, a stash of about 18-20 will be fine.  Plus, you'll probably want to buy extra hemp inserts for overnight.  Don't get the one-size type diapers, unless you want to be replacing your stash constantly.  We've used both BumGenius and FuzziBunz (both great brands) and they both offer diapers that grow with your baby.

  • Also check out No pins required. It's a local  online store in Ferndale. They are opening a store as well in the beginning of April. The owner is really nice and helpful. They also offer classes, so you can learn and see all the different kinds out there. We use Bumgenius and Flip Diapers and I wash them myself.

  • Also, check out Jillian's Drawer online.  This website has a trial program where you can try a whole bunch of different kinds of CD's for $10 plus shipping (you pay a security deposit too until you return them but you get that back).  I like the BG 3.0 OS diapers.  They seem to be the most like disposables, but it was $400 to start (including all the diapers, special detergent, wet bags, diaper sprayer, etc.)  If you want to talk about any of it, I recently went through all this.  My e-mail is JameRoo430@hotmail.com.

Also, I heard there is a local CD store opening in 2 weeks!
