I went today for my second ultra sound it's CD 8 and I've been injecting Menopur since last Thursday. The NP at my RE office confuses the heck out of me. Now I don't know if things are on schedule or not (after she told me that if it doesn't happen with this IUI it probably won't) I'm kinda freaking out.
I had one follie on the left that was 11 and one just barely over 10 and on the right the same thing. I thought that was good for CD8 but she didn't seem very optimistic. She wants me to do two more nights of shots and then a 3rd u/s on CD 10. The first two IUI cycles I only had one follie and it didn't get to 18 until way late in my cycle. The 3rd IUI cycle she said I made too many (she let me trigger anyway but too early I think).
She's giving me conflicting info. two cycles not enough follies and when I do produce a lot then it's too many. Two 11 and two 10's sounds like a happy medium today but she just didn't sound positive. Anybody else have any similar stories or insight?
Sorry this is so long I had to vent. I'm bummed now![]()
Re: 2nd Ultrasound CD 8 (long rant)
I'm totally confused by what she told you, but I'm not an IUI expert. All I know is my dr wants follies at 18 for trigger and 2 follies would be a pefect amount. As for not enough reponse, my only experience was on clomid and my follies never grew to 10 (I also never ovulated on clomid).
It sucks that this is so stressful and they are only making it harder. If you lived on the East Coast, I would ask if you were at my clinic. I was not impressed with the IUI folks. The IVF NPs are great, but I'm fairly certain the IUI people are willing to work for cheap.
I would call and see if the dr or another nurse could explain things to you, Good luck!
I'm confused too but I don't know much about IUI.
I do know that follies typically grow 1-2mm a day, so by day 14 I would think they would be anywhere from 16mm-22mm. Seems good to me.
Here's my experience with IUIs...I've never had a CD8 or CD10 u/s follie check. It's always been CD 2 or 3 to get a 'clear' u/s (making sure no cysts or anything); then another u/s on CD 12 or 13 to see how I responded to the clomid...then based on that CD12 or 13 u/s is when the RE determines when I should trigger and when the IUI is scheduled.
But...that's just my experience. I agree with pp about the follies growing 1-2mm per day and that by CD 14 you should be good to go! GL!!!
Holly I thought the numbers sounded on track for CD8 too but now I'm not sure what size she wants. It bums me out how confusing everything is!
That's what I thought too. Thanks for all the input ladies. I go in tomorrow anyway so my DH told me just to talk to them at my appt.. He is wondering if she is trying not to get my hopes up because it is our 4th IUI cycle. Who knows maybe she was just having a bad day and was depressed about something other than my ovaries and I'm so sensitive that I picked up on her "tone"
