Success after IF

last one, I promise..acid reflux

It's been awful the last 2 days. I have tried staying away for acidic foods, but it doesnt seem to help. I'm popping tums like crazy but still nada. Is there anything else I can do or do I just have to suck it up?

Re: last one, I promise..acid reflux

  • Pepcid saved me and my OB said it was fine. When it stopped being as effective, I switched to Prilosec for a few days.

  • Call your OB - they will generally let you take an OTC drug for it (Zantac, Pepcid, Prilosec, etc) but they may have a specific preference for you, so it's worth asking.

    Feel better!

  • My OB said Tums, then prilosec and since those didn't work, I'm on the little purple pill...nexium.  Its $3.50 per pill AFTER insurance pays though, but I was vurping every night and couldn't get a good nights sleep so to me, it's worth it.
  • I have to do Zantac twice a day or I will die.  Not even kidding.

  • I take pepcid twice a day every day, which the doctor said was fine.  Most days I still take some tums after I eat.  It is just terrible!  I also sleep propped up; I can be flat down or I just can't sleep from the heartburn.  In addition to avoiding acidic foods my doctor said to avoid nuts, chocolate, caffeine and of course anything even slightly spicy.  I also find that a glass of milk of a little yogurt after eating helps a lot.  I try to do that instead of tums sometimes.

  • talk to your doc- many meds are considered safe. I took Prevacid when pg - it's category B and also approved for children as young as 1 (and given to infants, too).  My OB gave me an Rx for it- but now the 15mg dose is OTC.
