Parenting after a Loss

Anything on your LO not "perfect?"

Ok, so this may be controversial as we think all our babes are perfectly cute.  But, if you could change something, what would it be?

I feel so bad for my DS as he will need his left ear stitched or pinned eventually, since it sort of falls over a little.  I know it was due to his position in utero, as he had zero room to move, and he was stuck in the same place for weeks on end, likely with his ear folded over. I don't want him to get made fun of in elementary school... and it's not even like his ears match! I don't even know what the procedure is like, but my DH is adamant about him getting it done... when I don't know.

DH and I are both foot docs, so it's kind of funny that DS1 and DD have slightly webbed 2nd and 3rd toes on one foot. DH also has it, so I wasn't surprised or concerned about it. If that want to get it fixed, we'll let them, but when they decided to do it. DS2 has some eczema on his face that bothers me, but doesn't phase him at all. He also has a stork bite below his left eyebrow; it's not big and it will fade away, but I feel bad that it's on his face.

  • DD's ears don't match either, but it's my fault because they are exactly like mine.  (When DH's aunt saw her for the first time, she was like "Whoa, where'd those ears come from?"  So it's not just me.)  I got teased a bit in school, but what kid doesn't?  My ears don't bother me, so I'm not going to do anything about hers.
  • Oh, DS also has a super short frenulum (in his mouth ;) ) that we may or may not fix if it doesn't resolve when he gets older.

DS had this too.  We had it clipped when he was 6 days old at the recommendation of 3 different pedis and 2 LCs.  Best decision ever.  He was unable to BF without a nipple shield because of it.

  • DS is in 99th percentile for height, 75th for weight, and 20th for head circumference!  His head doesn't look disproportional though!  At least the doc said not to worry...

DS has a dimple above his butt crack and a slightly short foreskin (he's not circ'd). Both could be indicators of internal problems but were not in his case, thankfully.

DD has an umbilical hernia, so while it is medically OK her belly button will never be cute.
  • DD is perfect but I feel bad that she has inherited my flat butt. lol

  • NOPE!  I just said on blended families, he's made of puppies, rainbows, sunshine and butterflies and he's absolutely perfect!

(the doc does say that he has uhm...very large boy parts, but I'm counting that as a good thing down the road, not a bad thing.)

OH yeah, in reality, he's 10th % for height, 50th for weight and 75th for head circum.  So yeah...I have a short, chunky baby with a huge head! HAH!  He looks proportionate though so its all good!

  • our little man has a very slight cleft in his lip. thankfully it isn't a "true" cleft lip but he will have to have surgery to fix it, probably in a year or so. it's not easy to notice it until he smiles, but the bigger he smiles the more you see it and I definitely don't want him to be afraid to smile. they said the scar will be so slight that it will hardly be noticeable, so that's good. it really bothered DH when he was first born, but thankfully he's gotten over it - he's so afraid of him getting made fun of. no one in either family has had one, so we're just one of those unlucky couples who have a child with it despite no family history. they said he carries the gene and will have a 4% chance of having a baby with a cleft lip or palette someday Sad

Henry has two different ears, and his head is kind of misshapen in the back. It might fix itself but it might not ... but that's ok, he's perfect anyway! :)
