Chiropractor for infant?

I took my 3 month old son to the doc yesterday for a bad cold. Found out he also has an ear infection. I've heard some people say to take him to a chiropractor, that it can help the draining. Has anyone ever done this? I love natural remedies and holistic/alternative medicine, but this one makes me a bit nervous. Some are so rough when they pop MY neck, I wouldn't want it to hurt my little guy!

Re: Chiropractor for infant?

  • My chiro treats pediatric patients.  We weren't seeing her when DD was an infant, but she was recently adjusted and it was fine.

Sorry I can't help more than that.

  • DD has never had an EI (knock on wood), so we haven't seen a chiro for that, but she has had visits with a chiro before.  The techniques they use on infants are extremely gentle and much different than how they work with an adult.  I would highly recommend chiro care.  For everyone, really!

  • I take both my kids to the chiro.  I didn't take DD for the first time until she was 12 mos.  She was developing an ear infection so they adjusted her.  It is very, very gentle.  We had just gotten back from the doctor where she had been screaming when the doc looked in her ears, etc.  DD just calmly stood there while being adjusted and she let the chiro pick her up after she was done.  Our chiro also does accupressure on the kids when they are sick and we get Chinese herbal medicines from her.  Oh... and DD never did have to go on antibiotics for that ear infection.  The next day she was so much better and completely well within a couple of days.

My friend has taken her DD to the chiro almost since she was born.  Our chiro says that children  respond really well to adjustments and usually sleep longer than usual the day/night after the adjustment. (bonus!)

Ditto this...the techniques are very different for babies.  My boys have been adjusted within their first week of life.  The birthing process is one of the most traumatic life events that a body goes through.  Not only can chiropractic be effective for ear infections, but also reflux.  (My DH is a chiro so PM me if you have any specific questions and I can ask him for you.)  I always recommend for people to try to find chiros who have a concentration in peds...depends on your area if one would specialize or not.

  • No personal experience with this yet, but I know a LOT of people that take their babies for chiro adjustments - I've been seeing one through my entire pregnancy and it has been such a blessing. I'm going to ask my chiro about doing an adjustment sometime during that first week, since I know labor and delivery is so traumatic on their bodies.
  • I got him an appt for tomorrow afternoon. This chiropractor specializes in pediatrics, so that takes away some of my worry!
  • Definitly!!  I'm a pediatric chiro..it's so different adjusting a baby, and it's terrific that your doctor specializes in peds too.  You're baby will do GREAT!
