Is this possible??:) Took DD for her 3 year well viist today and she is in the 80% for weight. Her pedi did not say too much about it but i want to do better for her. Does anyone have any suggestions for healthy lunch food ideas suggestions?
I am not a doctor or a nutritionist. Nor am I a statistician.
But between 16th and 84th percentile is completely normal. So the 80th percentile is normal! Especially if she is on the taller side. Also, are you caucasian? I recently read that the norms may get adjusted to take this into consideration - in general, asian kiddos are filling up one end of the bell curve and caucasian kiddos tend to be bigger in stature, for example. There are many factors to consider.
But at any rate, my suggestions for foods are whole, unprocessed foods. Whole grains, lean proteins, legumes, veggies and fruits and low fat dairy - maybe not in that order.
Beans are SO versatile. I have gotten in the habit of making DD big pots of veggie/bean soup that she eats from throughout the week. She eats a ton of fresh fruit for snacks and desserts - berries and yogurt is a favorite.
With a sandwich, I serve DD veggie chips or just cold leftover peas.
She also likes to eat plain tofu.
The only "diet" thing I'd be willing to do for a 3yo besides skipping junk food/desserts is to not add fat to stuff. I know kids need fat in their diet, but we don't add butter to our veggies or rice and DD actually won't eat it if you do add butter (my mom "felt sorry for her" that she didn't have butter on her veggies She added it and then DD cried because her veggies were slimy.) DD still gets fat from full fat cheese, yogurt and milk as well as from meats and avocado.
