Postpartum Depression

praises for lexapro

I know that meds are different for everyone, but I cannot sing the praises of lexapro enough. I just thought I'd give some encouragement to those of you who are starting this or thinking about it.

Zoloft didn't work for me (as you may know if you saw my previous post. I had an all-day panic attack after taking only one pill), so I was hesitant to try anything else. After trying to deal with the anxiety/depression on my own, I tried lexapro (suggestion from my OB).

Now, it didn't make me feel different right away, but it's been a week now and I feel almost like my old self again. The difference is night and day really. Last week, at this time, I was just barely functioning; just trying to get through the day. Now I'm able to enjoy my daughter and look forward to day-to-day events. I wasn't able to nap/rest before because I was so anxious, but now my afternoon nap with Evie is one of the best parts of my day.

Anyway, I hope everyone here finds something to help them. It's so amazing to finally feel like I can enjoy being a new mom. Hopefully the lexapro continues to work for me.

  • Great news! Lexapro worked wonders for me too.

  • I started Lexapro about 2.5 weeks ago and it has done wonders for me as well! I love it! I started noticing a difference within about 4 days. I still have some moments here and there but feel so much better and can enjoy my son even more. Glad to hear it is working well for you and you're doing better. I'd definitely recommend it as well!

  • Did you feel a little out of it when you first started?  I have this feeling with anxiety too, but was feeling ok until I took the Lexapro.  Thanks.

Yeah, I felt "on edge" when I first started taking it. I was very sleepy, irritable and my anxiety went up a little bit. That only lasted a few days though, at least for me.

  • Evening is usually my calm time, but I just got a really nervous stomach/feeling, adn wondering if it is the lexapro.  I have never felt like this at this time of night.  But it did get better?
  • Lexapro is my BFF right now. I feel like a human again and I find I have more drive to force myself out of the house and get active.

The first few days my anxiety sucked, and I was so tired. It leveled out after a few days and now it's awesome. I get the odd stomach ache and heartburn, but normal aside from that.
