Can you make milk come in faster?

I'm new at this so I have some questions!  Maybe is 3 days old, my milk hasnt come in yet.  She is latching on successfully on and off.  Sometimes she will nurse for an hour and sometimes I can not get her to latch on.  It feels like she needs more than the colostrum.  If I pump now will it help bring my milk in faster?  Or should I just be patient and work with what I am producing right now?

  • the more she nurses (stimulates you) the faster the milk will come in response.  you may feel it coming in too, my breasts felt like they had a warm flush washing over them as it began.  if you had a c-section sometimes it takes a bit longer for your milk to come in.

    This, with a correction.

If you had a SCHEDULED c-section and did not go into labor, your milk MAY take longer to come in (but should be in by 5-7 days PP which is a totally acceptable time frame).

  • Be careful if you pump. I pump from day one because of jaundice issus, it made my milk come in with a vengence. Then I have been dealing with oversupply issues ever since.
  • I don't know if this helped, but I brought Mother's Milk tea with me in my hospital bag and started drinking it with my breakfast after delivery. My milk came in on day 2, when it was more like day 3.5 with DD1.

I don't know if it was because this was my second or if the tea helped, but it can't hurt! I had an unplanned c/s, but did go into labor on my own.

ETA: I drank maybe 2-3 cups a day while I was in the hospital.
