DH and I have been talking and we're considering St. Luke's this time around (delivered at Methodist last time). This pregnancy is flying by and I completely forgot that I have to make my "choice" by my appointment next week, eek! I appreciate any feedback you have (positive or negative) about St. Luke's.
Thanks!
Re: Tell me all about St. Luke's (Med Center)
We went with Methodist last time and will be going with St Lukes this time. The reason for our choice is that if we end up with a repeat c/s, they (health of mom & baby permitting) don't separate you in the OR. You can even BF in the OR.
The thing I'm not looking forward to is switching rooms after delivery, but that's no biggie if I get to keep Mar with me in the OR.

Don't you have to do that at any hospital? I delivered vaginally at Methodist Willowbrook and the labor/birthing rooms were separate from the rooms the rest of your stay, you had to change rooms after you gave birth.
Yes, Methodist in the Med Center is a Labor, Delivery and Recovery Suite...it was nice to not change rooms.
duchess - what a crazy/sad experience.
I'm no help on either, though. I loved Women's and was 100% happy. Ok - 95%. We had one LC that pissed me off a good one because she made me feel like I was wasting her time. Everyone else was great.
Wow - I am so sorry you and your daughter went through that!
I have to say I'm shocked to hear that experience from St. Luke's, though. I had basically the exact opposite experience (to the point that in hindsight I wonder if he should've have been given some formula before we left, even though I wanted to EBF and would've fought formula).
I had a wonderful experience at St. Lukes. I had a c/s at 36w and Oliver never left my side (impressive for a 4 week early boy). I held him from the OR to recovery and attempted to BF the entire time I was in recovery. The LCs were very helpful, the nurses were sweet and I never felt any pressure about anything (from not giving bottles to a baby who had no suck reflex, to not doing the Hep B vax, to co-"sleeping" from day 1). It felt like we were allowed to be parents with no intervention, but help was there if we needed it. I even thought the food was pretty good! Aside from the holiday nurses (I delivered on Memorial Day, so we had the C staff) I have no complaints.

I delivered at SLEH and was really happy with everything. The nursing staff at SLEH was so great, especially my delivery nurse and the daytime postpartum nurse I had. My experience was the same as everyone else?s as this is now SLEH/TCH policy to keep the baby with the mom/parents. His first bath was in my room and even when the on call pediatrician stopped by to look him over/assessment, it was done in our room with her talking to us the entire time. The only time Colin ever left the room was for his circumcision and that was ok with me b/c I definitely did not want to be around for that.
I may be a little biased because I work for an Ob/Gyn who delivers primarily at SLEH, however, I was there and was completely satisfied w/the facilities and the care I received from the nursing staff. Plus I lucked out and got room #1, the big delivery room at the end of the hall and it was nice. And as for having to move rooms after delivery, that did not bother me a bit. It?s not like I had to do anything, they just wheel you up there. J
As far as LC's go, neither Methodist or St Lukes has LCs on staff 24/7 - I'm not even sure if Women's does (but they might.)
We're bringing in our own LC this time around.

Oh Duchess, I'm sorry to hear what you went through. Sounds like a horrible experience. I'm not trying to defend them or make excuses for that kind of treatment AT ALL, but maybe it was just the "weekend" staff. I delivered on a weekend too (but at Woman's) and they seemed to be short staffed. There was only 1 anesthesiologist on duty for the entire hospital (and they had 2 emergency c-sections) so I waited over an hour for my epidural, and they didn't have an LC on duty there either.
Sorry for the tangent, I know this post was about St. Luke's.
