Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Need bottle recommendation

We've been using Born Free for a few months and we're up to Size 3 nipple.  But it's getting to be a pain to wash all the parts (you can't use the bottle if you don't put all the parts in) and LO definitely doesn't need the anti-colic system.  Basically, I just need a decent BPA free bottle with a fast flow nipple that DS can hold on to and feed himself if he wants.  Any suggestions? The less parts the better!

Re: Need bottle recommendation

  • I'm not familiar with the Born Free bottles but we us Dr. Browns and there are 4 parts (not including) the actual bottle. It was a huge pain when I hand washed them but now they just go in the dishwasher in this little basket made just for them. We only run the dishwasher like 3 times a week and we have enough (that wouldn't be the case though if I were home with her all day). Sorry I don't have any other suggestions other than using the dishwasher.

  • Have you tried drop-ins?  We use Dr. Brown's and honestly I don't mind all the parts, I wash everything by hand.
  • We use Soothie bottles with the level 2 nipples. Tessa is on an acid reflux formula that is thicker and it comes through those bottles just fine. They are wide neck and kinda chunky. I love that they are big enough I can easily get a towel in to dry them. She can hold on to them and feed herself too. They are pretty cheap. I found them at Wal-Mart.

My embarrassing confession is that when I say "wash the parts" I mean "dishwash the parts and then have to put them back together." I stay at home 4 days a week so I am constantly running the dishwasher or occasionally handwashing bottles and parts.

We have two Avent bottles which are great, and they basically just have a nipple, top, and the bottle, but I only have level 2 nipples for them. Maybe I'll just look into faster flow for them...

  • We were using Born Free also and switched to The First Years Soothie Bottles, which have a wider flat nipple on them. They're just like the soothie pacifiers that many hospitals give out. She can hold onto them really easily and they're easy to clean too.

I use Dr. Browns also but I just recently tried out the Playtex drop-in bottle and DD ate great with it. Maybe Playtex would be easier?

  • I love our drop in
  • We have used Avent bottles from Day 1 and I love them.
