pelvic bone pain

I feel like I've ridden a horse!  It feels like my pelvic bone is bruised...what is this from?  Do you have this as well?  I find it hurts more when I sit for longer periods of time.  Is it just my bones and ligaments getting ready for baby?  I am only 26 weeks...so I have a long way to go if this pain continues...

Help!

Thanks

Re: pelvic bone pain

  • I've heard of this...my aunt had pretty bad pelvic pain for a few months during her pregnancy. I think it's because your ligaments are stretching to prepare for birth.

I'm just behind you at 25 weeks and haven't experienced this yet. Maybe it'll come next week.

  • I hope you are not like me where my pelvic bone still hurts from delivery. My doctor said it is very common for women in this area because when we are younger we fall on our butts a lot well skating, sledding, & stuff like that. I blame my mom for this because when I was born I guess her pelvic bone broke.
  • It could be something called pubic symphysis diastasis.  Which sounds a lot more serious than saying it's caused by the stretching of the ligaments with cause the pubic bone  - which is actually a joint - to separate more than it normally is.  The weight of the pregnancy also plays a part too in putting pressure on this area.

I've had this in varying intensity since about 16 weeks, and from what my doc says it won't really go away completely until you deliver and your body goes back to normal.  However, I have found that when it's really bad, staying off my feet completely and not even sitting up straight for a day will help to relive the pain and allow it to 'heal'.  If I ignore it and go about my business, it gets worse, until I have no choice but to just lay down for a day.  GL - Hope this helps!

I had this as well with my pregnancy.  I found that the less I moved the better.  If you have extreme pain I would talk to your Dr because they can recommend physical therapy to help.  I had my pain at about 30 weeks but it only lasted for about 3 weeks of varying intensity and then it stayed away as long as I didn't push it.  (I ran to catch the bus once and that made it sore again!)

  • Yup, I have this too right now, @ 31 weeks.  It started around 29 weeks though.  I feel like I've been doing the splits or something, lol!  Anyway, I chalked it up to the baby putting pressure on my pelvic floor and my pelvis expanding to make room for the delivery.
