Working momma's: What's your morning schedule/routine?

DH is laid off right now so he gets DS fed and dressed for daycare in the morning while I get ready for work. I know I'll miss this luxury when he goes back to work.

Re: Working momma's: What's your morning schedule/routine?

  • 5A: Get up.  Get dressed.  Makeup/hair.  Eat breakfast.  Pack lunch.
    545A: Feed DS.
    6ish: Change diaper, dress DS.
    615ish: Out the door.

DH is in charge of packing the diaper bag, thawing BM and making bottles.  This "schedule" is always in flux.  Sometimes DS wakes at 5A screaming and wanting to eat, other times, I have to wake him.  So the general order of things usually depends on the day.

  • Wake up 5:30 - Let the dogs out, shower, do makeup and hair.

    6:10 - 6:25 - Nurse DD

    6:25 - 6:45 - Pump & wash pump parts

    6:45 - Get dressed

6:50 - Change DD's diaper & get her dressed and in the car seat (usually sleeping the whole time

    7:00 - Leave the house

7:10 - Drop DD off at daycare

7:25 - Drop DH off at work

    7:30 - Arrive at work!

DH is often able to pick up some duties - feeding the dogs, changing DD, etc. which can be a big help.

  • Tegan normally wakes up (in her crib) around 4 AM and my morning goes like this:

4-5:30 AM- Mommy and Tegan snuggle and get a little more sleep in bed

5:30-6:00 AM- Tegan stays in big bed with Daddy and I go to the bathroom, make her bottle and feed the dogs

6:00 AM- Diaper change and dress Tegan for the day

6:10 AM- Feed Tegan her bottle

6:20 AM- Tegan hangs out in bouncer or on the bed while Mommy gets dressed

Out the door by 6:30-6:45 AM and at daycare between 7-7:15 AM.

  • Most days (until recently), DD wakes up to nurse around 5 or 5:30.  (I keep a little extra time in my schedule for days when DD eats later than usual.)  DD goes back to her crib for a nap and I go back to bed afterward if time allows.

    6 am - shower

6:20ish - breakfast, get my bottles ready for work

    6:45ish - get dressed

7 - DH gets DD up and dressed for the day (sometimes he does this a little earlier depending on how he's doing on getting out of bed - he's NOT a morning person).  I pack up DD's bottles, my pump, and everything else I'm taking to work and schlep it out to the car.

7:15 - give DD her medicine and leave for daycare

On days when DD wants to eat later than expected, I try to jump in the shower before my alarm goes off so I can fit feeding her into the schedule without getting too late of a start out the door.  (Also I feel guilty if I'm in the shower when she wakes up hungry, so I try to be able to stop what I'm doing and run to her as quickly as I can.)

I get up at least 15 minutes before I "need" to just in case DD sleeps late or DH can't get himself out of bed to dress her.  On a good day, that means I have time to read a magazine while I have my cereal or I can cuddle with DD for a few minutes before we leave.  But usually that time gets eaten up by something non-leisurely ;)

  • I am all by myself in the morning, DH leaves the house by 6:30.

6:30 - Get up, and get a shower

7:00 - Wake up Mason (if he's not already awake) & feed him (EBF)

    7:15 - Cuddle time

7:30 - Dry and straighten my hair

7:45 - Change Mason into a new outfit and get him ready to go

7:55 - Grab everything I will need for the day (diaper bag, new outfits, breastmilk, and so on . . )

8:00 - On the road driving to SIL's to drop him off.

8:15 - Drop him off and back in the car to work.

    8:25ish - Get to work.

It's all about finding a routine that works best for you!  Good luck!

  • 4:30 am - i get up and feed him and he goes back to sleep
    5 am - i pump for 30 minutes
5:30 am - get ready for work
5:45 am - on my way to work (hubby is still home)
    6 am - nanny arrives
6:30 am - hubby goes to work

this past week i have been doing an earlier shift so i'm out the door by 5am.. so my husband feeds him.

  • 4:30am - feed LO and then she goes back to sleep

5am - get out of bed, get ready

5:45  - out the door to be at work by 6

My husband gets up around 9am, MIL arrives at 9:30, husband leaves for work.

I get home at around 4pm...

  • Funny you should ask.  After having Addy I lost all control over any schedule and this was partially the reason for PPD.  After getting some help I was told that making time for myself is VERY important.  My schedules all look similiar to your except that I wake up an extra half hour early for some AM quiet time to start my day stress free.  When I would get up and start my day rushing around to get out of the house it made my entire day stressful.  My 'me" time could include reading, checking FB, having a cup of coffee outside (we live in AZ.).

  • 5:30 alarm goes off, DH goes to get LO, changes his diaper, I feed him, DH gets in the shower

6am I get up and start the shower, hair, makeup thing, DH makes coffee and breakfast for me (something easy to eat), he also gets the bottles ready and pump parts in the bag

    6:30 DH leaves

6:40 I sit down to pump, dress LO and play with him

7 finish pumping, rinse parts, get dressed, load the car, etc

7:15 out the door, get to work by 8am

I will say when DH isn't there or can't help with all of that, I need an extra 15 minutes.

  • ok well since DH is OOT for work this is how I am managing. Let me start by saying I have EVERYTHING ready to go the night before.

6:30-I wake up, get dressed, hair/make-up, take the dog out

7:00-wake up peanut, change diaper, put on her clothes, have a conversation about being good a school

7:15-out the door on the way to daycare.

    7:30-drop off peanut at Daycare.

She eats her first bottle of the day at daycare. She screams bloody murder when she is hungry but until she is ready she will refuse to eat so........some mornings she has a break down about the time we pull into the parking lot at daycare. IDK why she can't figure out that it is now or never when I offer it to her before we leave the house for the morning. I have even tried waking her up when I get up, but so far no luck.

  • 6am: Jaiden usually wakes me up, I put his bottle to warm while I change him, and then I feed him.

6:15: I hand him off to DH to prep him while I shower and get ready for work.

7am: Out the door with Jaiden to my mom's house.

  • 5am: wake, let dog out & feed her, nurse DD,  change diaper

    5:30am: shower, make-up, hair

6:00am: breakfast, pack lunch & daycare bag

6:30am: dress DD for the day

6:45am: nurse DD & change into work clothes

    7:15am: out the door

There's a lot of flexibility in this schedule. I normally have time to play with DD on the floor for awhile and I usually manage to pump before work. I'd try to sleep a bit later, but she's usually awake and starving by 5:15 (sometimes earlier).
