Thank you so, so much for your thoughtful reply re: my DS's weight and the pedi's rec to supplement.

Do you have an LC that you'd recommend? The ones I had at the hospital were not helpful - at least for me, and at that time.

I have more questions, too - and funny enough, DH is also sitting impatiently with remote in hand waiting to hit "play" on LOST.

Thanks again, I really, really appreciate it.

Cheryl at Special Addition is *amazing*!  She really helped us get Kate on track weight gain wise and then she continued to call and check on us for weeks afterwards.

  • Quadruple (?) quatro (?) vote for Cheryl.
  • I never saw an LC (my midwife helped me in the beginning instead), but other ppl have rec'd Cheryl quite a lot as you can see. :) I did call her once but she isn't as familar with toddler issues so she wasn't able to help me much (it was about a sudden latch problem and DD rubbing a hole in my nipple, which we survived BTW). She spent a lot of time on the phone with me though, talking it through and giving me information to bring to both mine and DD's Dr's.

We really went through the ringer re: DD's weight. We still have to see a specialist for weight checks and re-evaluation every 4 mos, and every time we go to the pedi we have to weigh her butt nekkid because the ounces her clothes add screw it all up (makes it look like she's lost weight when she gets weighed with clothes at a sick visit, then nudie at a well check). It's been a little over a year since it was deemed Big Issue, and I'm just now able to not give a f*ck. DH was a tiny baby, we were both tiny kids, we're both on the small side now.

If you feel there is something wrong, then push-push-push until you get answers or have exhausted all resources. If you feel there isn't anything wrong, then talk to everybody you know about it and gather experiences from your mama's. That's what helped me more than anything- as first time mom's we tend to second guess ourselves and don't feel like the experts we are. Having my mama's to back me up when my gut was telling me the Dr's and nutritionist's rec's were wrong gave me the confidence to find the right answers for DD.

Good luck, and keep us updated, okay?
