any moms use an apnea machine? hannah update

So to update everyone from hannah's appt today. She is 20 3/4 inches long and weighs 7lbs even.  Still not as much as 1/2 my friends newborns weighed but she is close. Today we went to the dr due to a scare.

During the very rare nap that she takes she decided every so many breaths to quit breathing. So we called doc and we took her in. He ordered an apnea machine that will monitor her for heart/breathing issues.  She doesn't seem to mind wearing it. Last night it never went off so that is good. Just takes a while in the middle of the night for a diaper/outfit change.

it is just so scary and i really wish i had noticed her doing this sooner. she could have just started it. and she is so colicky that when she falls asleep 2 seconds later i am sleeping. I just feel guilty i should have noticed it.

Also she has an umbilical hernia which they will just watch until she is a year old. If it gets worse they will fix it but it should fix itself. It just looks really weird.  other then that she is doing fine.  We are lucky to already be cpr certified and so many family/friends that are it helps a lot.

the thing that aggravates me and dh also is his mom acts like it is no biggie. she even said she noticed it when she was in the hospital but said "i saw her quit breathing but figured the nurses would notice it "  ummm wouldn't that be something you mention?  dh said he saved me from her b/c she was trying to come over and he said no. at least i didn't deal w/her on top of everything else.

  • Campbell was on an apnea monitor after coming home.  It was no big deal, just very annoying because she would have lots of false alarms.  It made us feel so much more at ease to have her on it and I was pretty nervous when it was time for her to not have it anymore.  Several of the moms on the preemie board have used them, so if you have specific questions you can ask over there, too.

Also, Campbell had an umbilical hernia too.  Hers went away on its own (to my amazement because it was pretty big) at around 6 months old.

  • Awww I'm sorry hon. Don't beat yourself up. It's not something that you'd be specifically looking for. Katen came home on an apnea monitor and I agre with the pp that there were some false alarms but I also think sometimes the sound of the alarm is enough stimulation to get the baby breathing again. It's scary stuff but they grow out of it quickly. Best of luck!!
