Austin Babies

just sharing- boys and their aim

Jake has decided this week to start standing up at the potty. Just after 3 days of this, I see a LOT of cleaning in my future.  Is it wrong for me to just teach him to sit and tuck for the rest of his life until he moves out on his own?!  Grumble grumble...

Re: just sharing- boys and their aim

  • LOL. We are experiencing the same thing. DH showed DS how to "pee like a big boy" so when we take him to try to go potty, DS wants to do it like a big boy. He's actually peed a couple times and I swear it went everywhere BUT in the potty. DH's next job is to teach DS about aim.

  • Colton has gotten pretty good at aiming.  I was able to start him out with sitting though.  He does like peeing standing up the majority of the time now though and I'm pretty comfortable with not watching him now to see where it might have went besides in the potty.  I think it just takes them time to learn how to control it.  He mainly only accidentally doesn't make it right when he is first starting to pee, then the rest makes it in.

    Same with my husband. Hah.

  • Try putting 3 Cheerios in the toilet each time he goes and give him "points" for each one he sinks.  It'll do you worlds of good!
  • funny!

I swear it goes EVERYWHERE but in the potty including all over himself and earlier on my foot because I was standing too close trying to help.

And, he yanks on that thing to get it in position so hard that it makes me think he is going to break it!  I don't know exactly how rough one can be with those parts but geez....

  • Fa1ry- I am going to start the Cheerio thing and making him stand on a stool next time.  Thanks for the reminder!

Thank goodness for Lysol wipes!  :)

  • Lysol wipes are a must!  I made DS sit down for a long time, even after DH taught him to stand.  I had a talk with DH and it was something like, "if you want to go in after him every time and clean the bathroom, then he can stand.  Otherwise, you need to tell him to continue sitting."  The talk worked.  :)  DS is almost 4 and he's been standing for quite a while now, so its really just an extra 6 months or so to work out the aim thing (or to learn to stop dancing around so much).  Atleast, that was our experience.  Good luck!
  • Oh great. As if getting them to learn how to use the potty isn't hard enuf. :-)

You look fab, by the way! It was great to run into you on Sunday!

I think my DS thinks he can get pee to come out by squeezing it.
  • Ugh, one of the reasons I'm so scared to have a boy!  I always told DH that if we had a boy, DH would have to clean the toilets for the rest of our lives.  Somehow I don't think that would have actually worked out though...

    BTW, LOVE your new siggy!

My friend did this!  She swears by it.
