My older sister was 3 weeks late (1979) and I was just 4 days late. I wonder if I'll go past my due date or have to be induced. Do you think there is any correlation between what your Mom's labors were like in comparison to yours?
This is my first but I certainly hope not. My mom was in labor for 25 hours with my brother. She went med free too. That women, as much as she can annoy me, is my hero.
I am a first time mom and someone told me your labor will be like what your mom's was. I was 10 days early and my sis was 4 days early. We asked our birthing teacher and she said there is no correlation.
I can't even begin to guess the accuracy of my mom's due dates since she always went the natural route with midwives and home births and never had an ultrasound - so some of the due dates were probably questionable. Most of us (7) were born pretty close to when we were expected, but a couple were weeks off!

I'm not a second time mom, but am overdue I was 2 weeks late and my sister was 10 days late. I am 5 days overdue and although I was dilated to a 1.5 cm on Friday I am still not having even uncomfortable contractions. Thank god they don't let you go that long anymore, I am getting induced on Thursday.
Hmm, well my mom had 5 kids (the last two were twins), but she didn't make it to her due date with any of us. 3 were 3 weeks early (that includes the twins), 1 was 2 weeks early and the other a few days early. I had my son a month early due to pPROM so that has no correlation to my mom. The labor of our first children were similar, but I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

I arrived almost 3 weeks late; my mom refused to be induced. I was induced at 41 weeks b/c of low fluid, otherwise I would have refused as well. My mom was in labor for about 5 or 6 hours, I was 12 hours with DS#1 but I think it would have been shorter if they had actually broken my water when they thought they did - that really moved things along!

I don't think there is any correlation. My mom was 1 week late with my sister and said she ate lots of plums to make herself go into labor. She was 2 weeks late with me and went into labor after drinking at a New Years Eve party (she says she figured she had not drank long enough and hoped it would forced me out......). Her water never broke on its own either.
My sister had pPROM with my niece at 32 weeks and they managed to keep my niece in 2 more weeks before she was born at 34 weeks. My DD was born on my EDD after my water broke the day before.
I was 2 weeks early and my moms water broke. Madeline was 2 weeks early and my water broke. My labor was much longer then my mom's though cause my contractions didn't start on their own after my water broke.
I think they got due dates wrong for my mom! She thinks my brother (1968) was 3 weeks early, but he weighed almost 8 lbs. My sister (1970) was apparently on time at almost 9 lbs. Me (1977), I was only 6, 6 a couple weeks early (probably got that due date right).
My son was a week late and weighed 8 lbs even. Mom had fairly normal deliveries with my older siblings. I came so fast that the nurses delivered me. She said she also thought she was going to have show and tell at the house since my brother and sister both had friends spending the night and my grandparents would not answer the phone at midnight to come over to babysit. Dad had to drive to their house to wake them! I would love for this one to come that fast, but if I'm like mom, my second like hers will be the hardest!
My mom had a very easy pregnancy with me, and then had a longer labor with limited progression and ended up with a c-section. She then had 3 other pregnancies, all easy but scheduled c-sections.
I had an easy pregnancy with DS (3) I labored at home for the afternoon, spent no more than 3 hours at the hospital and ended with an emergency c-section with general anesthesia. (baby HR issues, mecconium and a few other things) I am once again having an easy pregnancy but a scheduled c-section.
(I have also wondered this exact same question! I did talk to my grandmother about it...She had 10 kids, easy pregnancies and barely had everyone in place before the babies came out it was so fast! So she was not like my mother but 2 of her 5 daughters were exactly like her!)
Even tho this is my first, I can safely answer, because my mom had three preemies, and my little guy is late...so no correlation between mom's delivery dates and mine.
My deliveries were eerily similar to my mom's. Her first (me) was born 5 weeks early and required forceps. My first was 3 weeks early and required the vac. Her second was born right on time and her labor was so fast she barely made it to the hospital. My second was 5 days early and was born so quickly that we barely made it to the hospital. In our case, it seems like there was a correlation!
Not in our case. My mom's first (my brother) was 3 weeks early, DD was 2 weeks late. It's the absolute farthest apart you can have full term babies. (I was 2 weeks early, we'll see what happens with this LO).
ETA: Our labors so far were similar, though. She went relatively quickly with both my brother and I, DD was a relatively fast first time labor at just over 6 hours.
I was really hoping so, because my mom had really fast labor. Didn't work out that way. With her first (my brother), he was 10 days late and she was only in labor for 8 hrs, med free. DD came 4 days early and I was in labor for a million years (2 days of early labor followed by 26 hrs of hard labor after my water broke) and had to have pitocin and an epi in the end. DD and I were within 0.1 oz of each other in birth weight, though, which I thought was kinda weird.
Not similar at all! My brother was 6 weeks early and I was 3 weeks early! I was 41 weeks when DS finally came! I was so sure I'd go early because of my mom's history! But it was totally different!
Re: 2nd time moms - how did your labor / due date compare to your Mom's?
i don't think they're comparable at all. they said i came 2 weeks late, and weighed 6lbs 9oz. suuuure. my son was 4 days late, about the same weight.
they also said i wouldn't have fit through my mom's pelvis and i don't believe that either.
my mom didn't labor, she had a csection pretty much right after her water broke so she never felt a contraction.
Eerily similar.
My brother (her first) was...water broke, 14 days early, 21 hours, sunny side up. I was 17 days early, 23 hours, sunny side up.
My labor with DD...water broke, 12 days early, 19 hours, sunny side up.

Really the only thing we both have in common is quick labors and going natural.
And I was told by my MW and when we took our classes that there is no correlation.

My mom had my brother and I both, very early. I was born 2 months early...and weighed 4 lbs. 4.....my brother was similar weighing 3lbs 12ish.
My son was born 2 days before his due date, weighing pretty much exactly 7.
I don't think it means anything by looking at your mother's births.
