I just know she's going to scream her head off...she hated the sponge bath i gave her...
I'm a little confused about one thing, do you make the water in the tub soapy or just put the soap on the washcloth? Then, how do you rinse the baby? Even if you put the soap on the wc it seems like the water would get soapy
any other last minute tips for me?
Re: I'm scared to give LO a bath
I don't have any tips about the soap but I just wanted to say that our LO hated the spongebath- I mean like turning purple screaming her head off hated it. But she actually liked the first bath where we were able to put her in the water. No screaming or even crying- even when I washed her hair.
Good luck!
yes, a couple of days ago i accidentally snagged it on her sleeper when i was undressing her and POP..off it went....oops
that actually makes a lot of sense, thanks!
so there is hope for me! :-)
DS hated baths at first, too, but he's getting used to them now. He was even kicking his feet in the water and sucking on the washcloth last night. He still fusses a bit when I first put him in, but once I put a warm washcloth on his belly he calms down.
He has peed in the water during the bath and after the bath on the towel. At first I was bathing him on the kitchen counter (I couldn't lean over the side of the tub very well in the beginning), and he also peed all over the kitchen. Keeping a washcoth over him also prevents the pee from going everywhere.
If her cord stump has come off then you can use more water. A lot of babies cry because they are naked and wet and that makes them cold. If you can get her into the water a little bit further then she might be more comfortable.
Ditto the comment about the wash cloth. Cover her with it and then pour warm water on her and the wash cloth. If you can make her more comfortable you may find that she absolutely loves a bath. My DS is so happy in the bath and always has been.
If you are worried about the soap rinsing all the way off then try cetaphyl cleanser. It is so mild that you don't have to rinse it off. So if it doesn't all come off you can be okay knowing some is still on her. But I always used a cup of warm water from the tap to rinse my kids off. And when we did DS's baths in the kitchen sink we used the spray nozzle on him (very carefully). Now that he gets his baths in the bathrub we have a showerhead with a hose on it. So I use that on a gentle setting to rinse him off. I just have to be careful about the face.
And that whole thing about "they can feel it if you are nervous" is true. If you are confident she will be more comfortable. Just remember, you can make the bath short if you need to.
great advice thanks...the soap we have is actually cetaphil so that's good to know!
lol, i can picture her peeing in the water, she did during her sponge bath!
