Do I Need an Infant Bathtub?

We live in a small condo and are trying to avoid buying anything we don't need. It seems like those plastic bathtubs take up a lot of space. If you bought one did you use it enough to justify the purchase or can I do without it?

Re: Do I Need an Infant Bathtub?

  • We don't have one.

Generally we get in the tub with C. Usually one of us bathes her and the other one does the handing in and out and then goes and gets her diaper on etc. But I've done it alone too, just takes some planning to have enough towels etc all ready to go.

  • My SIL and MIL swear by this bath mat over the tubs. They say it's easier to wash them and it doesn't take up nearly the room the tub does.

  • We used that bathmat for DD and loved it.  We even bought one for my parents' house that they keep stored in their attic until we visit.  I wanted one for DS but wasn't able to find it at BRU when we were shopping so we went for a regular sling.  I DON'T like it as much as the mat.

We did get a baby tub that would fit into our kitchen sink.  It was super easy to wash him in there.  I didn't have to bend over to give him his bath and I didn't have to look at my tiny baby in a big ol' tub.

But I would not get an expensive tub.  Get one that is cheap (or a used one) and then only use it for a little while.  Then get rid of it.  We sold ours on Craig's List for about what we paid for it.  We had a tub that circulated the water, which was great.  It kept the water warm for DS and clean.

  • You can get a Puj Tub.  They take up less space and are flexible to fit in your bathroom sink.
  • I have one and used it twice. I bathed with DS until he could sit up on his own. Now he sits in the big tub by himself.

  • No, you don't "need" it but I think it's nice to have. I have the Primo (I think?) Eurobath and it is large, but DS has his own bathroom so it just stays in the tub. Although at last house we had one bath and just set it out on the floor when we used the shower. It has worked well with my son from infant stage on and at age two he still bathes in it. It seems wasteful to me to fill a whole big tub with water for such a little person, plus he seems a little more secure in there.

  • My baby is three weeks old and we haven't used the baby bathtub yet.  I get in the bath and relax for a bit, then my husband brings him in to join me and we bathe him together.  It's my favorite time of the day and I think it's my baby's too - he LOVES it.

When he needs a bath outside of the usual bedtime routine, or we simply have less time, we bathe him in the bathroom sink.  I'm not sure we'll ever use the baby bathtub honestly.

  • My friend swears by this:

She just uses it in her regular bathtub.

  • We used a bath lounger thing much longer and it was way cheaper and took up less space.

  • The best infant baby bat tub out there is the Puj Tub. if you don't have a lot of room this is perfect because it hangs on the back of your bathroom door FLAT and it's super comfy for your baby.  I love this thing!  it works for regular baths and quick "oh-no we're on our way out the door and baby exploded out of their diaper!" baths too :) it has draining holes so the water drains out of the tub which makes it nice for rinsing because none of the yucky water stays in there with him.  Look it up, it's a great product to have!
