How long did your labor take from induction to birth? Were there complications?
My OB has scheduled an induction for this Saturday. I'm a bit nervous (terrified of the pitocin, and worried that labor will be hellishly long since my body hasn't done much on its own so far).
Any words of advice or assurance from those who have been through it?
Thanks!
Re: If you were induced...
From beginning to end labor was almost 8 hours. My doc broke my water and then started pitocin at 7:30am - I was 1cm dialated and my contractions were about 5 mins apart. I got my epi at 11am - 3cm and progressed quickly to 10cm by 2pm. LO was born after about 20 mins of pushing at 2:46p.
Don't worry about anything! I was scared that I would have a hellishly long labor but was plesantly surprised. My one piece of advice is to get the epi as soon as you're in agony - don't wait like I did and be in agonizing pain for a couple hours because I didn't want to look like a wimp
My water was broken at 2:30 pm Monday and DS was delivered 10:22 Tuesday morning. Contractions started at 4 and I asked for my epi at 6:30. It was a llong but fairly easy labor. I started pushing at 6:30am. My contractions were still about 3-4 minutes apart so I was able to relax for a minute after pushing. I had no complications at all. Good luck!
I was induced due to high blood pressure. From the time they gave me my first round of pitocin until i delivered was 37 hours. i had to get two doses of pitocin cause the first didn't work, which that was 8 hours out of the 37. once i got to like 6 cm though it started to move, that's also when they gave me my epidural. I was in a lot of pain but my contractions were right on top of each other (minute and a half long - level 8 contrax - with only a minute rest in between for like an hour).
my advice: Shower before you go in and EAT! once they give you that pitocin you arent' allowed until the baby delivers. once you take a look at that beatiful baby all the pain disappears from your mind. it was soooo worth it!
11 hours, 22 minutes. Induced at 5am, had my baby at 4:22pm. I started pushing around 1... so the pitocin worked well. But it was CRAZY.... they used every tool in the room to try and get him out, but my big man just wouldn't budge, so I got a c section right around 4pm.
Words of advice? Get the epi as soon as you can. There's no need to wait through painful contractions just to get it later! It's a very nice drug. And try to use to bathroom before they start the pitocin, otherwise, you get a bedpan and that's just not fun. Be nice to the nurses and they will treat you like gold. And don't be afraid of anything... have confidence in your doctor and everything will turn out a-ok. Good luck!
This depends on the hospital. They actually brought me meals and I was allowed in the tub (although i didn't use it) throughout labor.
I unexpectedly ended up in the hospital to be monitored, and then was told I wasn't leaving without a baby. I was 37 weeks.
I was given cervadil Monday night, which got me to 1 cm dilated by the next morning. My doctor broke my water (which I was deathly afraid of) at 8:45am. It wasn't bad. It was basically an internal that resulted in a gush. It didn't hurt, more so was just weird feeling.
They started my pitocin then, and that wasn't bad. My contractions were a little rough, especially since I was feeling them in my back. I didn't want to be tough. I asked for my epidural by noon. I was 4 cm then.
The epidural sucked. But it didn't last long, and I just clung to my fabulous nurse. Breathing and clinging helped me, and seriously the part that stung was quick.
Once the epidural was all set, it was amazing knowing I was contracting and not feeling it. Sadly enough, my body went a little funky and I ended up with a c-section. I just couldn't dilate past 5. Overall, it was not bad. Scary at some points because I've never experienced anything like it. But the c-section was fast, and my daughter was gorgeous. I am so in love, and all that happened that day was worth it.
With DD: I had zero effacement/dilation and was induced at 38w3d. I had Cervadil placed at 4 am, my epi at 11 am, and Pit started at 4 pm. I was 2 cm at 4 pm, 4 cm at 8 pm, and 10 cm at 8:45 pm. DD was born at 8:53 pm with only one push. No complications, no tearing, nothing. It was an awesome experience.
With DS #2: I was induced at 39w 3d due to decels on the NST. DS was in an unstable lay, so he kept flipping from breech/transverse/head-down. I was 3 cm and 70% effaced. I got to my L&D room at 6 pm, had my epi at 6:30 and my water broken and the Pit started at 7 pm. LO was having late decels again - my contractions were coming one after another, and he wasn't getting a chance to rest. The pit was stopped for half an hour and then restarted; he began having the decels again (which weren't a result of being induced, but from his unstable position), but they stopped and his heart rate went back to normal. At 10 pm I was 5 cm, and 10 cm at 11 pm. DS was born at 11:23 after 15 minutes of pushing. Again, no tearing and another awesome experience.

my read shelf:
I started at 1.5 cm and soft. It was 12.5 hours from starting the Cytotec to ripen my cervix until delivery. I went into labor without the Pitocin, they just gave it to me at the end while I was pushing. It was about 8 hours from when I knew I was in labor to delivery.
I didn't have induction complications, but the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck, and he had to be pulled out with the forceps because his heartrate was so low. I lost a lot of blood and had a 4th degree tear.
my pitocin was started at 4 am it honestly wasnt terrible and i dont do pain at all! it didnt take alot either for it to get the contractions where they wanted them they gave me my epi at 10 and broke my water and by 1230 pm i was feeling tons of pressure and i had gone from 4-9 in 15 mins and ds was born at 1:08 pm. honestly my epi hurt me more than anything this time around they couldnt find my mid line and i got poked 6 times and everytime they kept hitting bone! you'll do just fine the number one thing to do is to rest as much as possible it really speeds things along! good luck!
Cytotec began at 9 PM, water broke at 2 AM on its own. Pit at 4 AM for 20 mins. Born at 10:52 AM.
Not bad. From first dose of Cytotec to birth was ~14 hours, but was only in active labor for ~7 hours. Only complications were that he was headed toward my right hip but laboring on all fours fixed that, and his heart rate was low for a long time so a vacuum was used, and I had an episiotomy (only 2ns degree). My epidural also failed but that was no big deal.
I was only 1 cm and 50% when I went in, too, It went really well.
