My pedi suggested 6 months because I am EBF. But, we did it early because we felt that he was ready for it. We started on rice cereal and then eventually went to mixing apples/peaches in with the cereal. He loves it! And, we only do it at night time before his last feeding.
DS gets cereal, we'll start solids at 6 months (pedi says so)...however, they gave the ok to give him a little bit of apples in his cereal if he goes too long between BM's.

We started rice cereal at 4 months with DD which was 1 month later than we started DS. Pedi gave us the go ahead with both and we were o.k. with it. We started slow and followed their cues. GL!
My pedi also suggested waiting til 6 months, LO started showing lots of signs around 4 months so we just started some cereal slowly last week. I decided to go with my mommy gut over the pedi.
Our pedi recommends 6 months, but I am ebf (no bottles) and we are going to a wedding the first weekend in may in boston, so I started solids at 5 months 2 weeks, so that I would have another option besides whipping them out, haha.
At our 4 month appointment, when we asked about rice cereal, the doc said we could try and see if she's ready, he had no problem. So we tried it a few days in a row and yesterday, she finally got the hang of it and ate her entire bowl of rice cereal! So we'll do that every night for a week, then maybe introduce another kind of food.

If you are feeding solids then you are not EBF. Just sayin.

We are delaying solids. Didn't with our first two, they both have digestive issues which can only be explained by their starting solids at 4 months (per their Pedi's recommendations). We've been to 3 Pediatric GI Drs all of which point to starting solids too early. We'll start DS#3 when he's about 7 or 8 months and we'll skip cereals and go straight to fruits and veggies.
I was getting ready to post something about this myself. We went to the pedi yesterday for LO's 4 month appointment. He told us it was fine to give solids a try. I am hesitant because I have heard you wait until 6 months. But he indicated that it can vary by child, which makes sense. So I think we are going to try cereal this weekend and see how that goes. My gut tells me that she is ready but I may just stick with the cereal for a while before trying anything else.
BTW, your LO was the same weight as mine at birth. Just for reference, she was 16 pounds 4 ozs yesterday.

Oh excuse me, I was ebf until yesterday. jesus.
Where did your ticker go? Yesterday it said your LO was like 6 months (and maybe some change). Now today *poof* it's not there, and your LO is back to being under 6mos.

careful. she may call you a twit for calling her out.
My pedi recommended starting solids. She's a little old school. She was my pedi when I was little and I slept on my tummy and was FF. I trust her and DS is a big boy so she thought he wasn't fully satisfied with BF and FF alone(we do both) He eats a fruit/veggie in the morning and cereal before his bedtime routine.
we have our 4 month appt at the end of the month- at our 3 month appt our pedi said- next month we will talk about starting some solids. I dont know why some pedi's want to wait and some do not. My sister is a pedi in NC and she started her twins on solids at 4 months.

I called you a twit for a reason. I cant remember what it was, but you were def. being a twit.
We got the green light from our pedi for cereal only. We asked if it was ok to hold off I really wanted to EBF for the full 6 months. He had no problem with it and said to watch baby for ques of when she is ready as well.

i BF, wasn't sure if that would make a difference? i don't see why it would....but our pedi said 6 months is around the time their digestive systems are ready for anything other than liquids.
i will be following DD's cues and start when i think she is ready....our pedi is good in that she doesn't make us feel as though she has final say in DD....she tells us what she would recommend and that we know DD better than anyone.

Our pedi told us to start at 4 months because she's eating too much formula. I didn't. I've given her oatmeal twice and she didn't understand how to swallow it.
Right before our 4 month appointment I started noticing little cues that made me think LO might be ready to try some solids. Pedi confirmed at our appointment that LO was ready but it still took until last week or so before he really did well with solids. Our pedi did say that babies bodies are designed to get everything they need from breastmilk/formula for the first year so if he wasn't interested in solid food not to push the issue.
We didn't start with our toddler until he was 6 months, but he was doing fine prior to that and not showing signs of "interest." He was also a preemie and has had allergies/skin issues, so we didn't want to push it. Eli, on the other hand, has had solids since he was about a month old due to reflux. The pedi doesn't want him to eat much more formula and rice cereal, so we got the go ahead to start fruits/veggies at his 4 month check up. I've honestly only done it twice because I'm lazy and it's messy, LOL! He seems like he's MUCH more ready than Samuel was at his age.
My pedi is great, she really works allot with the individual baby and not the standard timetables. I wanted to wait until 6 but she said we would just take our cues from Parker and if he let us know earlier he was ready we would give it a shot, and he did!
