I didn't want to hijack the post below, but I was just curious on other's thoughts. I noticed some of the responses indicated that they were going to have their regular family doctor also be their doctor for their little one. I love and trust our family doctor and he mentioned to me that he would love to also care for the baby once he/she is born so I've been seriously considering going that route.
Do you think there are any downsides to not seeing a doctor that specializes in pediatrics? I mentioned that I was going to use our family doctor to a friend who has kids and she didn't seem to think it was a good idea since pediatrics isn't his sole practice.
Thoughts? TIA!
Re: S/O Finding a pediatrician?
We having been using our family doc since DS1 was born, 10 years ago. We have never had a problem. If he needs to see a specialist like an ENT or something like that than we go to one.
ETA: SHe also delivered DS1 and I was high risk with him.
I am going to see a pedi- I am not really sure- I don' t have a family doctor that I love and trust.
PS- I LOVE your boxer!!! Soo cute! I have a brindle one!

Sure, if your kid has a condition that requires seeing a specialist then sure, see the pedi. But if your child is going to all the regular appointments to check weight gain, get vaccines, check milestones, etc than a regular family doctor is more than capable to handle those kind of things.
Where I live having your child see a family doctor for regular check ups is perfectly normal. Kids here only see pediatricians because they need to see a specialist for a specific reason.
Thanks for the responses! I think as long as you trust your doctor, it should be fine.
Mak - thank you! She is my baby! I love brindle boxers too. They are the sweetest dogs I've ever met.
This and if you don't trust the doc you go to than there is a problem. lol
Agreed!
I want my child to be seen by a specialist. Medicine grows and changes constantly. I think it's important to go to someone who is current and up on their education for that specialty.
The family docto I see is great but she commonly refers me to other doctors if I have a specific problem. I didn't want to go through that with a baby.
I agree with this. I want my baby to see someone that is in the know with the latest in the pediatric world. I am willing to bet that more pediatricians are in the know about peds than family practitioners.
Agree 100% with this.

These are all good points too and something to consider when we look to make our final choice. Thanks for all the insight!
