the car seat inspector we talked to suggested just rolling up a baby blanket or burp cloth and putting them on either side of baby's head. when he explained why the bundleme was dangerous, it made perfect sense, so we aren't using it at all.
we'll probably still use it. I just found out today that the reason not to use it was because godforbid of an accident happening the car seat company can't be blamed for anything because the carseats are not tested with anything underneath the baby.
What were the reasons you were told not to use it?

"A baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, bankroll smaller, home happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten, and the future worth living for"
Just wanted to share what my hospital car seat class told me. Use of a Bundleme or snowsuit is NOT recommended while in a carseat for the following reasons:
1. THe straps should always fit snug around your child while in the carseat. When you strap a child into the carseat that is wearing a large thick coat, snowsuit, or bundleme, the added fabric makes you 'think' you have a tight connection when you don't. In the event of a crash, that thick material collapses when pushed on, and those straps that were tight are all of the sudden loose. Children can and have flown out of their carseats when the straps are not on tight.
2. (This one is more for snowsuits). Snowsuits are typically a shiny and slippery surface, which in addition to have loose straps, provides a great surface for the child to slide out of upon impact. Our car seat instructor told us that a child was one thrown out of his carseat in a crash, and the snowsuit was still found inside of the carseat, in the straps. He had literally slipped out of the snowsuit and the carseat at the same time.
Obviously everyone has to make the best decision for their families. I won't deny that it is a pain to take a kid out of heavy clothing to put them into a carseat, and then repeat the process when again when they get out. I just wanted to pass along the information that was shared with me.
Their are carseat covers. It goes over top of the carseat then you can just put a blanket on the baby. That's all we used with DD. As long as baby is dressed in layers and you use a warm blanket they'll be fine with the cover.
