So we bought the Britax Marathon 2+ years ago when Maddie graduated from her infant carseat. We bought the Marathon thinking she'd be able to use it for a long time.........WRONG. She's 3 years 3 months, 35 lbs and we have to get a new seat because the crotch strap is too short and she's complaining that it hurts (which I believe her, it looks painful). I know the Decathlon has an adjustable crotch strap but I don't think I want to spend that much on another car seat since she'll be in a booster seat pretty soon anyway.
Any suggestions?
Re: Convertible carseat rant + need suggestions
I'm not sure about the carseat question, but this is good info to know--so thanks for posting; I'll be watching for the suggestions.
p.s. your sig pic is so sweet!
I don't know if this is the case, but I've read that it's possible with a Britax to accidentally catch the crotch strap when you're putting the seatbelt through (or the latch connectors I assume). So that the crotch strap is being shortened because it's caught.
If you uninstall it I'm guessing that you'd be able to see if this is the problem or if the crotch strap is really that short.
And if it is, then try calling them to see if they can send you a longer one.
I would definitely call Britax just in case.
We bought a Graco Nautilus when DS outgrew his Britax Roundabout by height. It has a 5 point harness and will convert to a full back booster and then a backless booster later on - so will keep him harnessed a long time and then should get him through to when he no longer needs any seat. We have been happy with it so far. The Britax Frontier is another option... not sure if there are any more.
We just bought 3 Britax Frontiers because the older model (80lbs) are on close out right now so it was $199 with free shipping and no tax. It's really big and Emmy loves it. Comes with a cup holder and arm rest! it can also be used as a high back booster when she gets older. but I want her to stay in the 5 pt harness for at least til 5 or 6. Ally will be going into the Marathons and Boulevards in Sept once she gets too big for us to carry her in the carrier.
BTW: I had the same issue and she is 39" and 39 lbs at her 3 year checkup.
