  • thanks for listing this! Do you think it is a must-have item? (or something similar?) I haven't even thought about this....

  • I BF for 6 months and never used one.  But I wasn't a "nurse in public" type person, I would nurse in my car or a dressing room if I was at the mall.  You won't really know until after you have your baby, if you will feel comfortable with it or not.  I had no problems nursing at my home in front of friends or family, but I never did it in public.

I bought one and never used it at all.

  • eh, hard to say.. I guess it depends on if you plan on bf'ing in public and how comfortable you are with bf'ing around other people.  I think that if you want to be modest about it, it's better than using a blanket?  I used mine in the hospital because it drove me nuts to have people coming in and out of the hospital room all of the time while bf'ing.. But I never used it at home, and never had a chance to bf in public before my breasts stopped working :(

  • I agree with the other ladies. It just depends on you and where you intend to feed, etc. I received one as a gift and used it regularly feeding in the presence of my male inlaws. I could never really get comfortable popping myself out in public. By 6 months my son was pulling it off because he wanted to see everything. Now at 9 months we have to nurse when we are pretty much alone because anything is a distraction.
  • thanks for all the feedback! I guess I'll wait and see how things go before making any more purchases, I'll be staying at home and all my extended fam is on the other coast, so maybe I won't need one after all! Stick out tongue
  • I loved my Nursing Cover.  My sister bought me this one off Etsy.  I had no problems Nursing In Public(NIP).  I really liked having it so we could go to the mall, or playdates.  I nursed DD for almost 11mo and would use my nursing cover at the softball fields while DH played, while visiting family, the zoo or just out and about.  It's all about your comfort level.  If you BF and are comfortable NIP I would highly recommend having a nursing cover.  I know I will be using it again with DS in a few months.

i never have used one, and i have nursed in public.

i like blankets better. ds hate having anything over his head. his head covers my boob, so i use the blanket to cover my stomach and for an emergency cover when he pulls off.

it's not a must have. you can nurse discretely without one. everyone always thought he was sleeping when he was nursing. as he got older, he was way to distracted. we no longer nurse in public because he'd cause a scene and he can go longer between.

i also think nursing covers draw more attention to what you are doing. i'm a little shy, so i prefer people to think he's just sleeping.
