Babygate that doesn't need to attach to things?

I need some sort of gate/barrier that is about 5 feet wide to cut off access from the living room to the rest of the place. There's no where to really affix it - It would just be on the ground from the couch to the wall.  Is there anything like this?

    I have never seen aything. We are getting a 7 foot gate from walmart.com, but they have other ones on bed bath and beyond that are large - they do have to mount to the wall though, because they have a walk through gate.

    check walmart.com, they may have ajustable ones.  I thought I needed one at least 7' wide but now that I found a play yard I think I'm going to get that instead.  We can use it for camping and whatnot too.

    we love our north states play yard.  Before LO was mobile we used it to keep the dogs out of the living room.  Its adjustable, you can add links, and you can bring it together to form what we lovingly call baby-jail ;) My mom got the idea from one of her friends that has a daycare, my mom used one when babysitting all 3 of my cousins...and we LOVE IT.
