4 Month Old Won't Nap

Could this be DS's version of the 4-month wakeful period? He goes to a babysitter 4 days a week and is home with DH and me Friday - Sunday. When he's at the babysitter's he naps great - at least 2, 2-hour naps each day. With us, though, he will hardly shut his eyes during the day! Yesterday I had to lay down with him for 45 minutes before I could move and let him sleep on his own. I don't mind the cuddling but it does make it hard to get anything else done. We can't not hold him after he eats either as he has reflux and we have to keep him upright for 30 minutes, so unfortunately he is used to sleeping on us. This is mostly just a vent but if anyone has any suggestions for how to get him to take a nap, I'm all ears. I've tried everything I can think of - his crib with his lullaby CD, the swing, the bouncer, white noise, etc. At least he is still sleeping well at night (knock on wood)!

Re: 4 Month Old Won't Nap

  • Our DS sleeps great at night in his crib, on his back. He will pretty much only nap during the day if I put him on his tummy. I just check in on him a lot as I'm cleaning or just doing stuff around the house.

  • During sleep disruptions, I end up chained to the bed with him during naps AND nighttime sleep.  I'm no help.

All I can say is it'll pass!
  • Reagan has days where she fights me for going down for a nap even though she is so tired.  I have noticed if i put her down before she gets overtired it is much easier for her to put herself to sleep.  Also during the day she sleeps on her belly for naps and does awesome.  She usually takes a 2 hour nap in the morning and a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon.  If she is giving me a hard time i just let her cry it out as long as it isn't bloody murder crying.  I just keep going in her room to put her nuk back in and she finally passes out.
