My first shower is on the 24th with friends and they already told me what they are giving us. A crib (but no mattress), one of the three toddler car seats we registered for, the travel system (plus two extra bases for the infant car seat), the bath system and the boppy pillow. I will be having my family shower on May 23 and I have no idea if DH's side is giving us a shower too.
My mom keeps telling me not to buy anything until after my showers, basically see what I get then buy whatever else I need. I am having a hard time with this. We have absolutely nothing besides the items I know we are getting on the 24th. I am just struggling with the idea that I have to wait until I am 33 weeks to see what else I will still need. I know we are probably going to end up spending a few thousand dollars and it would just be nice to start buying some of those things now rather than all at once in the end.
Anyone else have this problem?
Re: Anyone not buying anything until after their showers?
We have only bought outfits. My parents are buying out furniture, my grandparents are buying our travel system, my other grandmother is buying our pack n play, and DH's parents will buy something (they aren't too interested in this pregnancy, so we will see what it is). So that is most of our big stuff. I have a swing from the twins, and got a used Sweet peace swing for 30.00 from a friend. I figure we will get all the smaller stuff from our shower, so I am not buying it (bottles, play mats, toys, blankets).
I have bought A LOT of clothes. I started buying clothes at 16 weeks when we found out the gender, and it got me really excited about this pregnancy. I had a hard time before that "connecting" to the pregnancy. So.... DH has been encouraging me to buy clothing and little cute things, as it has helped with my nerves and accepting that this pregnancy is different.
