Babies: 0 - 3 Months

A question for those who have flown that FF..

We will be flying up to RI on Friday for a 3 day weekend and I'm probably overthinking everything way to much.

If you FF and have flown did you buy your formula and pack it with you in your luggage or did you buy it at your destination? I'm not sure what to do. I will have enough formula to get him through the plane trip.

And what did you do coming home if you had a lot left over? I don't want it to possible spill all in the luggage bags. Also, I'm assuming that I am allowed to pre-water my bottles for the trip so I can just add the formula from the dispenser. I e mailed TSA and they responded but really didn't answer my question. They said we can have bottled water so I'm assuming what I'm going to do is ok.

Thanks and sorry this got so long!

  • tsa.gov has guidelines for traveling with infants and food or formula. If you're going to pack a can of formula in your suitcase and check it, put it into a ziploc bag so it won't get into your clothes if it comes open.

  • we are flying next month and according to jet blue we can pack as much food/formula we need for the baby in the diaper bag for the plane ride..i plan on packing extra in there too!

as for the trip, my friend suggested switching the baby to powder formula. they did it with their DS and she was fine plus it was soooo much easier! I suggest trying it out with your child prior to traveling to make sure your dc can handle it.

if i do not do the powder i will have to bring at a min at least 20 8oz cans!!

  • We just flew last weekend.  It was very easy.  I made up all the bottles with water and had the formula measured in the dispenser.  When we got to security, I told them we had the bottles with water ready for the formula and they said it was fine, they didn't even look at them.  I packed the extra formula powder in another carry on bag with extra empty bottles.  It was no problem at all.
    Good luck with your trip.
