(Middle names are family names) 

Boy: Grant Melvin

Girl: Ella Clare or Katelyn ("Kate") Clare

I prefer just Kate to Katelyn or Katherine but then Clare doesn't work, and I want to use that as the middle name.

    I think they are lovely names; I agree that Kate Clare doesn't really work, but Katelyn Clare is pretty.

    I don't like Katelyn Clare...I think you should try to pick a name with a different sound at the beginning. I don't like the double K sound.....But if you love it that is all the matters!

    I like Kate way more than I like Ella. Katelyn is nms, but I understand the dilemma with Clare. I like Kate a lot though.

     Grant is good.

    Your boy name is okay. For a girl I like Katherine (Kate) Claire. I do not care for Ella much and Katelyn is nms...

    I love Grant Melvin, it's super cute.  Ella Clare is adorable and my pick.  Katelyn Clare just doesn't seem to flow very well.

    I like Ella Clare better. Grant is nice, I'm assuming Melvin is a family name. It's pretty awful though.

    Thanks everyone!  Yes, Melvin is a family name.  I don't love the name but I do love the person it would be honoring, so that's why I can live with it.  And I like using family names for middle names.  (I don't love my son's middle name either, but it's my husband's middle name, his dad's middle name, and his grandpa's name, so it means a lot.)  You know how it goes...
