So, today is my first day back at work, and typically I work from around 8-4 (I have a 1-hr commute, so its more like 7-5). I ended up pumping 3x today..all with very varying amounts of milk (5oz, then 3.5 oz, then 4 oz.) Just wondering how many times you pump during the day? Also, do you get different amounts each time? Has it been fairly consistent from day to day with the amount you get? Also, do you time it so you try to pump when they eat? Does your DCP stay on a specific schedule for you?
Sorry for all the questions. Thanks!
Re: Working moms who pump?
Hi! I pump and work and can help you with some of your questions.
I never pump at the same time of day, but I have found I always pump more earlier and get less as the day goes on.
I work out of the car and have a hands free strap I use to pump while I drive. Since you have such a long commute, I would highly suggest trying that. You can save yourself some time at work or possible just be able to get more milk to cover the bottles you need to leave. Lately, I just pump as soon as I leave and I get a great amount to start the day off.
Since I don't work out of my home every day, I do it at different times when I am gone. I try to time my last pump when he eats his last bottle w/my MIL so I am full again when he is ready to eat and I'm home.
I hope that helps! If you try pumping while driving and need some help, just page me. I was scared at first, but now love it because I'm not concerned about how many ounces I'm getting since I'm concentrating on driving.
I am out of the house from 7:30 to 6:30 everyday and I pump 3 times at work. I aim for 9, 12, and 3 but it varies depending on my meetings, etc.
I usually get more in the morning and less by the 3 pm pump but averages around 4 oz. Some days I have more milk than others. I notice on Monday I have a much quicker let-down than Friday. My DCP feeds DS every 2.5-3 hours but not specific times. I BF him on demand when I'm home, so that's why we aren't totally on a schedule.
