Question re: flying with a baby...

Hi ladies,

 

When you are flying with an infant (not purchasing a seat), do you need to inform the airline at the time you purchase your tickets or do you just purchase them as you normally would?

    I just purchased as normal. Bring the birth certificate just in case, but I have never been asked for it and I've flown with DS several times.

    Usually there is a place that you can "check" a box that states you are flying with an infant.

    You do need to tell them either when you purchase online or at the check-in counter because they need to print it on your boarding pass.

    We just flew yesterday on Delta and on my boarding pass it said, "infant in arms."

    At the time you purchase the tickets.  Even if they are a non-paying infant, they have to have a ticket.  Silly, but I'm sure it's for security purposes.

    I'm pretty sure that's only for international flights...right?

    when i booked our flights for an upcoming trip a few months ago there was a message to let the airline know ahead of time if flying with a lap child.  no check-off box or anything.  so, i called last week to let them know.  we'll be bringing a copy of his birth certificate to the airport.
    Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.

    It may be, but I know that when we flew to MI last year with her we had to have a ticket printed out that had her name on it.

    If it is an international flight, you may want to check with your airline. I was looking at flights last week and some airlines require that a seat be purchased for infants on international flights.

    If it is an international flight, you may want to check with your airline. I was looking at flights last week and some airlines require that a seat be purchased for infants on international flights.

    When we were purchasing our tickets for Costa Rica, Ella (who is under 2 and will be when we fly) we just had to pay 10% of our ticket price plus a crapload of taxes for her to fly on our lap, so I'm not sure that you have to buy a full price ticket.

    Really?  I wonder if it depends on the airline.  There's been no mention of a ticket for Cal so far...

    Really?  I wonder if it depends on the airline.  There's been no mention of a ticket for Cal so far...

    International you have to pay in advance for the fees/taxes, so you'll have a separate e-ticket number for them.

    Domestic you can call in advance and/or tell them that day and they'll print a boarding pass for the baby.  They will have a piece of paper with their name but you don't have to pay for it  =)

    You do NOT need a ticket unless you have actually purchased a seat for them (not required until they are 2.....).

    Otherwise.......it is indicated on the BOARDING PASS that you have an infant.

    As an FYI: We just flew yesterday and they came on the intercom several times stating that it must say "infant in arms" on your boarding pass. This was at the gate (so past security....). They said if it wasn't on there to just come to the counter. BUT......trust me, they will see the baby at security and they will take care of it :)

    the few times i have flown with DS the site I purchased my tickets from asked if I was traveling with an infant/baby.  It was printed up on my ticket with my name and infant

    Thanks everyone. I called Delta to make sure and they told me to just purchase the tickets for MH and I, call them with the confirmation number and they will add the infant to the ticket.

    Let's hope this trip goes smoothly!
