High-Risk Pregnancy

irritable uterus

This is the first time I've been on this board.  I have an irritable uterus and was wondering if anyone else has the same thing.

Re: irritable uterus

  • I had irritable uterus with my first pregnancy.  I had some other complications like placenta previa and placental abruptions that likely caused the irritable uterus.

Are you on meds? Bed rest?  Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best.

I don't have an official irritable uterus with this pregnancy but my OB still calls it my 'pesky uterus' since I'm still having placental abruptions and random bleeding.

  • I had it with my daughter and now this pregnancy as well, but it's too early to see if it will be worse or better with this one. Definitely started earlier but hasn't been as bad as I remember just yet. I was on bedrest with DD from 18 weeks on (for a shortened cervix) so I'm already doing better with this one...so far.

Meds didn't work for me with DD, and they lowered my blood pressure too much (which is already really low) for it to be safe for me to take them. While the constant contractions were awful, they didn't shorten my cervix any more than it already was and I wasn't dilating past 1cm so it wasn't having any affect on me besides mentally! Unfortunately there is no way to know if the contractions are causing cervical change without going in and getting checked, and the FFN test was a lifesaver for me - I'd go to L&D, they'd do the FFN and check my cervix and if the FFN was negative, I got to go home.

  • i had one with ds and with this pg. both times the contractions have started PTL. i'm on 17p shots this time though and my cervix didn't start changing until 34 wk compared to 24wk with ds.
