The NP who does all the IUI's for my RE told me this last time that if I haven't gotten PG in the first 2-3 cycles using an IUI then I probably won't and she doesn't recommend continuing with IUI. (I'm currently on IUI #4 on CD6 and doing Menopur injections) I go in for my next u/s on Tuesday. Has anyone ever been told that if you don't get PG right away it won't happen? Has your Dr. limited the number of tries you can do with an IUI before you have to move on with IVF?
Any info is helpful. TIA
Re: How many IUI's before moving to IVF?
My RE recommends 3-4 then move to IVF. I skipped Clomid and went straight to injectibles. I got pregnant on IUI #1 but had a m/c. Have my WTF appointment a week from today so will find out then if having been successfully on the first IUI changes anything.
If IUI #1 hadn't been sucessful, I was going to push hard for moving to IVF after IUI #2.
Sorry so long has more history...
Thanks for all the input ladies! We have never really been diagnosed with anything so it's harder for me to make decisions.
While trying to concieve #1 I tried the clomid without the IUI and didn't respond well to it. When I was referred to my RE they started me right away on Repronex injections I tried 3 IUIs with a bunch of breaks for lap surgery to remove cysts. None worked so we took a break and got PG on our own.
Trying for #2 I went back to the RE after about 6 months of nothing and they started me on the Repronex injections but it seems like they couldn't figure out the proper dosing because I didn't repsond like most of their other patients. I think this time it will be good. (I hope) This last appt. the NP told me she thought I may have slight PCOS.
The info you all shared helps make my choice easier. Here's hoping I won't have to worry about it though
My RE said that 90% of women who will concieve with IUI will do it in the first 3 attempts of each intervention, meaning 3 IUI's with Clomid, then 3 IUIs with injectibles, etc. It's not that he won't do more if that's what a patient wants, but he believes your chances are reduced after 3 attempts.
This exactly.
we did 2 IUI and are now moving onto IVF with ICSI...mainly cuz of severe MFI and my age. ?
We tried the 2, becuase we were told even with low sperm count..."it only takes one" (I know, if we all had a dollar for every time we heard that!) so we figured we'd give it a shot (s).
I do have to say that doing the IUIs first helped me get comfy with going to the doc regularly and also giving myself shots...so that helps!?
