Pregnant after 35

2nd baby after 20 years

I just found this board recently.  I have a daughter in college that will be 20 yrs old in June.  I am now 14+ weeks pregnant!  Everyone thinks we are crazy but we are very excited.  I have been with my husband for 17 years and this is his first child.  Do any of you have large gaps between children?

  • This will be my 4th child in 19 1/2 years (surprise!).  My boys will be 19 1/2, 15 & 6 when our little girl arrives.

I wouldn't have it any other way.  Since there was such a gap between all of the I feel like they all had my undivided attention because the older one was big enough to entertain themselves or in school by the time the new baby arrived.

My sister's boys are 22 months apart & I don't know how she does it.

    Congratulations!

  • Welcome! I have a 20 y. old daughter in college, a son who is almost 3, and now I am 10.5 weeks pregnant. Excited but getting my CVS this week to be sure.

  • No gaps here (this is my first), but just wanted to say welcome!
  • I have a 14 yo and an 11 yo, and 18 weeks (almost) pregnant.  It's my second marriage, and he doesn't have kiddos, so we are having one together.  I was nervous about the age gap, but the boys are very helpful as it is, so I think it will be fine.  G/L!
  • Oh yeah, right there with you, LOL... my DH is 11 years older and this baby was a total surprise.  DH has a son, 30, daughter, 23, two grandkids, 3 and 2... my boys are 13 and 9, and now Madison is on the way.  There was a lot of shock on my part and anxiety (best way to describe it) on his part but now we have both totally embraced it and can't wait to meet her in 6 weeks!  My boys are SOOOO exctied, too!  Good luck!

  • I have an almost 10 yr old and a 6 yr old....not as big as your gap!  But I think it is great b/c the older ones are so helpful and are very self-sufficient.  BUT....it feels like I am starting all over again!

How old are you btw?  Sorry if that is too nosy of a question!

  • Yes, my DD is 20! Also a junior in college and I have a 7 month old.I cannot tell you how amazing it is this time around and to watch them together brings me great joy!
  • Congrats and welcome!  I have a 15 and 11 year old, and this LO is DH's first.
  • I'm right there with ya!  I had my first at 18 and this one is due on my daughters 17th birthday.  She wasn't to happy at first to say the least!  We are thrilled and she has had a change of heart!  I am looking forward to being a better more mature mother than I was the first time around.  It's definately a different experience being prego this time than it was the first time around!  We couldn't be happier!  Congratulations to you and your family!
  • My MIL had her oldest son at age 15 (obviously, not planned). This was the early 60s, so of course they had to get married right away.  A year later, she divorced the abusive douchebag, and went on to graduate from college and get her MBA.  When she was in her early 30s, she met and married my FIL, and waited about 5 years before she got PG with my DH.... so there's your 20 year age gap.  To be honest, until my DH was in *his* 20s, his older brother was much more like an uncle to him than a brother.  The two loved each other, but not with the exact kind of closeness that siblings much closer in age who grow up in a household together have.  There's just nothing around that, it is what it is.  But as DH became an adult, with a job, house, wife, etc., he and his older brother grew much, much closer and really loved and enjoyed each other, they spoke at least once a week (older brother traveled a lot for work so it was hard to get together in person) and spent every holiday together.
  • I have 14, 16, and 18 years between me and my siblings. I was a very late baby and a big surprise. I know that I caused a lot of worries at the beginning but it has been such a blessing for me and especially for my parents to have me. Good luck! Congrats!
  • I am 38.  I had my lovely daughter when I was 18.  She pointed out that she is closer to my age than her soon to be sibling's age.  My daughter was always a joy and is a great person, so at least I know I can do this!

  • Wow!!!  That's great!  My neighbor has children in their 30's then at age 45 she had twins!  I love hearing these stories.  I think our babies will help keep us young...even if we have more gray hair than others.  ;)

I was 18 when my daughter was born.  So we have that "young mom" thing in common.  I too am thinking about another baby about year and a half after this one.
