Maternity Work Clothes Suggestions Needed

I think I have made it almost as far as I can go with the elastic-around-the-button trick.

I am looking for some suggestions outside of the mall stores, etc.  I need to dress fairly professionally for work, including suits several days a week (or dresses that are in line with a suit).  Your suggestions are appreciated!

Re: Maternity Work Clothes Suggestions Needed

  • The Pea in A Pod line through Motherhood, though its $$ has some nice work attire and I think its better made than the Motherhood line.

Maybe try Ann Taylor Loft Maternity? I think its only Online though.

My friend borrowed several maternity suits from her co-worker... could you ask around? Maybe?

    Good luck!

  • I don't have to wear suits, but I did find some nice dress pants at Loft (online). Loft also has some dresses that would work in a professional environment.

  • I have to dress nicely for work too, but not as nice as you it seems.  I did go to Pea on the Pod when I needed some nicer clothing for a big meeting.  They are pricey though.  I also agree to check out Ann Taylor Loft.  I have managed to find some decent sweaters at Target, but that's a bit hit or miss for really nice stuff.
  • Unfortunately suits are $$ - can you get away with a nice(r) pair of pants and a maternity blouse, sort of the suit without the jacket? When I was practicing there was a fellow attorney in my office who resorted to this, even in court.  Everyone understood and no one commented, even curmudgeonly judges.  If you don't need to button the jacket you might be able to get away with regular suit jackets a few sizes larger.

I've gotten some dress pants from Kohl's oh baby line, but that was a few years ago now.

If you are comfortable with the consignment store route, I'd call up some around you to see if they carry maternity, it might be worth checking out.

  • This stuff is really nice. It's expensive but if you need to look tailored and professional it's a step above the rest. You could probably get a few key peices and fill it in with tees and shirts from some of the cheaper stores

  • Ditto pps on Pea in the Pod - that was the only place I found truly professional attire and it is $$$.  (Luckily for me I only need those clothes a few days a month.)

  • I work in the financial industry and dress very conservatively every day.

I found a great pair of black maternity suit pants at Kohls by OhBaby. Bought two pair - they were $20 each. I wear them every day with my regular suit jackets on top and a maternity work shirt underneath.

I second Isabella Oliver Maternity line. Their clothes are pricey, but really nice and professional. I usually wear my original pre-pg pants along with be-band and just wear longer and bigger tops, but these i had to get newer ones since i hate my old maternity clothes. Found some cute tops from Banana Republic sale racks and get bigger size, luckily they fit fine.

  • For everyday stuff I got a lot at target and Motherhood.  For work, I got most of my stuff from Pea in the Pod and Gap.  Pea in the Pod is definitely more pricey, but the quality is much much better than anything you will find from other companies.  Gap maternity pants have been great for work as well.  I had to get them hemmed to wear with flats, but they look great and are good quality.
