Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Did your LO gradually start liking/using the bumbo?

Allie doesn't care for it right now, I think she feels "stuck" and she much prefers her exersaucer for being upright.  I was thinking about letting my friend use mine for her baby, but is there a chance that she will like it or that it will be useful a few months from now?

  • My DD had outgrown the bumbo by 5 months.  I say if she doesn't like it now, you probably aren't going to get much, if any, use out of it.

same for us, and I agree.

  • It took Mason a little bit to get used to the idea of it, and he will tolerate it for a little while, but we mainly use it when we go to the beach or have a picnic or something since he can't sit on his own yet. We have the tray with some toys on it so that keeps his interest for a bit. He's almost outgrown it though.  Maybe give it another shot and see.
  • DD wasn't that into it from the start, and she was tall.  By about six months, she could plant her feet and push off, which almost tipped the whole thing over.  We packed it away.
  • No.  Could have gone without ever owning one and never missed it.
  • I would say let your friend use it. We never really saw any good use out of it. The concept is great, but I think if your child likes it they will like it within the first few days.

  • We still use it occasionally (as a travel highchair), but I'd say most of the use we got out of it was before 5 months when she learned to sit unassisted. You could probably lend it to your friend and not miss it!

  • Nope, she never sat it in for more then 5 min. We posted it on CL and sold it. We took a loss on it but, eh, live and learn.
  • About a month ago, Katie would last about 30 seconds before throwing a fit, now she doesn't mind it at all.  I also feed her in it now so maybe she associates the Bumbo with food?  I don't know....
  • She outgrew it pretty quick ... and the during the time that she did fit in it, she HATED it.  :(
  • It took her a while to warm up to it- I did lots of little spurts of 5 minutes with her before she understood it was "her" seat.  I ended up creating a routine with it though- I would call her "co-captain" and put it next to the computer when I had work to do and give her the same toy to play with in her bumbo while I typed.  She understood it eventually.  But she's pretty much grown out of it now- she's too strong and can arch her back to get out.
