Austin or San Antonio for Anniversary?

Hi ladies!

DH and I moved to Dallas about a year or so ago and have not really ventured anywhere else in the state, since we had DS about 9 months ago. We would like to go to either Austin or San Antonio for a short trip (sans baby!) for our anniversary--just 2-3 days. Which would you recommend? Also--what do you recommend doing in either city? Activities, restaurant recommendations?

Thanks so much!! We're so excited for a little get-a-way!!

I really like San Antonio more than I did Austin. San Antonio has the River walk, the Alamo, and Sea World to do. Austin as 6th Street, the State Capital, and DH has to go to the park with the Stevie Ray Vaughn statue every time we go!! It's been a while since we have went to both so I don't know of any good places to eat.

It depends on what type of person you are I think. They're two completely different cities.

I, personally, LOVE Austin ... but I'm also 'from' San Antonio, so its not really much of a vacation destination for me, kwim? San Antonio I think has more 'touristy' stuff to do (River Walk, Sea World, Six Flags etc), but I LOVE the feel and the night life of Austin. I love the live music, the awesome bars, and the eating .... OH the eating involved in Austin.

If DH and were headed to Austin for a long weekend (just the two of us) we would be picking a really great small hotel in the downtown area, eating out for every.single.meal. Strolling around the really great little artisan shops near downtown, and if it was warm enough, laying out near Barton Springs in the afternoon, and grabbing a snow cone (or two).
