Formula Question - powder and liquid

We use Enfamil Premium and normally use the powder version.  They also make it in a liquid version and have pre-made bottles made out of it.  I bought some of the pre made bottles in case we arent in a place to make a bottle.  I used them today and fed her 8 ounces of the pre made bottles - 4 oz at 1 and another 4 oz at 5.  After the second feeding she spit up a ton of the formula and seemed to be having a lot of gas pain.  Crying, kicking her legs and she really upset.  She would also fall asleep and then wake up screaming and kicking her legs.  I fed her the powder version of the formula at 9 - she drank 3 oz and didnt spit up at all.  I put her down and she was alseep for 45 minutes and started screaming again and kicking her legs.

I'm now worried I shouldnt have mixed the liquid and powder formula.  Since they are the same brand and type I didnt think it would cause any problems.

Does anyone else switch between the powder and liquid versions of formula and if so does it cause any discomfort for you LO?  TIA!!

Re: Formula Question - powder and liquid

  • We do. My husband gets the liquid bottles free from work so we use those most of the time. If we run out and they have to order more we use the powder we've bought. We've never had a problem

  • I have to use Similac Alimentum but also had a problem switching from powder to liquid to powder.  My LO was awful with the powder kind (she has to have one bottle a day).  I ended up calling the 800 number and they gave me advice on how to mix it so that she would like it better - when that failed I called them back and they refunded my money and sent me coupons for free ready-feed.  Hopefully we won't have to use formula for much longer...

  • I do notice more spit-up with RTF formula vs the powder. I have been in the habit recently to premix formula with the Dr. Browns formula pitcher. She tolerates that very well. I would also try the concentrated formula cans - just a thought.

This is how we make bottles when we're out and about...we have a formula dispenser with three compartments, you can premeasure powder formula and put it in there...then prefill the bottles with the corresponding amount of water and just mix when the time comes, very convenient!
