Need Info on Conroe or Huntsville

Hello Ladies,

My name is Lindsay and I am from the San Antonio board. My husband has a career opportunity which may involve us moving to the greater Houston area. His job would be in Huntsville but DH thinks it might be a little too small for a city girl like me and thought that I might enjoy living in Conroe and having him commute.

This move would be a huge lifestyle change for me... it would mean me probably giving up my career and staying home with my son for a while. DH's job is contingent on him making more than the two of us make combined now (otherwise it just doesn't fiscally make sense to make the move as I would be giving up a FABULOUS job for nothing).

Asking my husband for information is only somewhat helpful... I need opinions from women! Can anyone provide info on either of these locations?

Thanks ladies!

  • If his job would be in Huntsville I would def. look into living in the Woodlands. It would provide you with a nice City atmosphere while still being close enough to his work.

  • Definitely consider Conroe and The Woodlands and the neighborhoods in betweeen.

Two specific neighborhoods I know of that would put you between the woodlands and conroe (but arent really "country" feeling) and give him a easier access to 45 are:

Jacobs Reserve --  https://www.jacobsreserveconroe.com/   This is right off 1488, maybe 5-10 minutes from 45 and then probably 30 minutes to Huntsville

Woodforest -- https://woodforestdev.com/  New community a little further west than Jacobs Reserve but further north with pretty easy access to  45 as well.  I'd say probably 15 minutes to I45 + 30 minutes to huntsville (though current road projects will improve the time to get to I45 in the next couple of years)

Being near/in The Woodlands will give you more of what you, as a "city girl" are looking for.  It suburbia for sure, but it has all the amenities like restaurants, shopping, etc.  As some of us recommended to someone asking about The Woodlands area, if your DH is commuting, you'll want to make sure where you live is close to 45 or at least has good/direct access to 45.  The "back" of The Woodlands is gonna add 20 minutes to his commute.

  • I grew up in Conroe and love it. My husband commutes to Huntsville from conroe and its only about a 30/45 min drive. But coming from the woodlands that would make his commute longer. Its got a TON of construction....

Conroe is becoming a nice little town. The woodlands exploded and everything that wouldn't fit in that town moved to conroe.
Well, thats how we see it anyway LOL!

I would recommend taking a weekend trip down here and seeing what you like.

I agree, Conroe is pretty big.

I definitely agree with taking a weekend trip here and getting a feel of the area.   You also want to have your husband check out the drive to Huntsville between both areas, he may decide it is too long of a drive everyday, with traffic he is looking at spending 1-1/2 to 2 hours in the car each day and that is a lot!

  • The Woodlands is a nice community with lots of family oriented things to do.  But your hubby's commute everyday would be about 50 minutes!  Not including traffic.

    Something to consider...

  • The Woodlands and Conroe are both great choices.  I live in the very south side of Conroe, not too far off the freeway.  I am a 10 - 15 minute drive to all the amenities of The Woodlands, plus all the amenities of Conroe.
