The worst thing about an afternoon ER is

not being able to drink anything for soooo long :(  I can go w/o food but I am so thirsty.  I haven't been allowed any food or water since midnight.

Would it be bad if I put some water in my mouth and then spit it out?

It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

    Well you have to do that to brush your teeth anyway so I would think it would be okay? Just be very careful not to swallow it.

    Oh I don't know but I had the same problem with my hysteroscopy.  They didn't take me until after 4...I was miserable, but I made it.  Hang in there.

     I see nothing wrong with swishing a little water around  or maybe a little  Biotene mouth wash might help make your mouth less dry. Good luck today!

    You should be fine rinsing your mouth out. They just don't want anything that you can choke/vomit on in case something goes wrong with the anesthesia.

    That is the worst. I had a Noon appt, and then it was delayed an hour. I thought I was going to fall over and die from thirst (ok, maybe a little dramatic).

    I think it would be ok to put some water in your mouth then spit it out. Kind of like brushing your teeth.

    You should be fine with swishing water. Don't worry if you swallow just a little. The nurses told us that if we had medicine to take before we could with a little water. So excited for you!

    I know!

    My ER was at 3:00 PM! I always wonder why they can't prorate the hours. Like if your ER is at 8 AM you stop eating and drinking at midnight, and if it's at 3 PM you stop eating and drinking at midnight. That's 7 more hours of fasting. 

    You can totally rinse your mouth out with water. Just make sure you don't swallow. (The nurses at the hospital let me do this before all of my surgeries.) 

    You're almost there though hon.

    I am sending you tons of PPV for today :)

    GL today!!!!

    Its too late now but I was told last year before I had a procedure done that as long as you have 6-8 hrs of fasting your good to go. So if you weren't going in until 4pm you could have had clear liquids up until 8am this morning.

    That is the worst part! Mine was at 1:30 and they were running behind when I got there. I have to admit that I did take a few tiny sips (maybe 3) that morning. I told the anesthesiologist and he said it was no big deal.

    I drank little sips of water before my c-section even though I wasn't supposed to.  I had to.  I was SO thirsty!

    After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

    That would totally suck. You should crush up some ice cubes and let them melt in your mouth!

    I hate the afternoon surgery times.  I'm the type of person that needs to eat immediately after waking up so it's always really hard for me.  Hang in there!
