Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Why is my sttn LO, now NOT sttn?

Also posted on 3-6

L has been sttn consistantly since 6 weeks old with a few "off" nights here and there. For the past two nights she has been waking every three hours just crying, but not really waking up until I console her and we're good for another three hours. Could this be teething related? She is teething REALLY bad. She's not sick...I thought it was just an "off" night the first night, last night felt like I had a newborn all over again.

* We stopped swaddling her two weeks ago because is rolling both way in her cribs. It hasn't bothered her so far and I even tried it in the wee hours of the morning but it didn't change anything.

  • More than likely, it is related to teething.

  • If you find the reason, let me know.... my LO has been sleeping terribly the last 2 months. And she had been sttn from 6:30 pm to 6:30 am nightly.
  • DD STTN at 6 weeks and stopped around the same time.  The pedi said it was because she was more aware of her surroundings and suggested Ferber because she did not need a night feeding.  We were reluctant to try it but we eventually did and it worked wonders.  She is back to sleeping 11-12 hours a night.  Good luck.

  • Sleep patterns change as babies grow. DD was a great sleeper from 2.5 months to 3.5 months -- but she hasn't slept through the night since (not once!). It might be that her teeth are hurting. It might be that she's working on a new skill and doesn't want to stop learning to sleep. Whatever it is, my philosophy is that babies wake because they need comfort of some kind -- just keep on soothing her back to sleep when she wakes. Hopefully she'll start sleeping better soon!
