3rd Trimester

accelerated resting heart rate

I am at 90 bpm right now and am a little freaked out. Thank goodness for google search, otherwise I think I wouldn't have recieved any comforting news for a while, (It's 5 am where I am and the only place to call would be the ER). Everything I found on resting heart rate is that it can jump 10-20 bpm over normal simply because we are all pregnant, especially in this trimester b/c of the uterus taking up around 1/5 of our blood supply. I woke up half an hour ago to a pounding heart and my rate was up. It's been like this for days. My fetal movement is still really good, the little guy beats me up on a pretty regular basis! And my swelling is low and only seems to occur when I am at work, but feeling my heart pound always makes me nervous. Any other ladies out there experiencing this?

Re: accelerated resting heart rate

  • I seem to get that too but it goes away after a few seconds.  I find that sometimes when a contraction starts I get a little bit of a faster HR.

  • I don't know anything about HR except to say its not a good feeling and sorry you're dealing with it.

  • It freaks me out too.  I don't remember that with DS#1, but I've had it this time around.  I'll just be sitting there and my heart is pounding away!!

  • I've been experiencing this too, for at least the last two months. Except my resting heart rate will jump up to about 120bpm, and stays that high for about five minutes before going back down. It feels like a big shot of adrenaline, like someone has given you a fright or you're really nervous about something. My OB said not to worry about it. Seems like what they say to every weird pregnancy symptom!
  • I had this a lot with my first pregnancy - I also had heart palpitations.  It is unsettling and nervewracking to say the least.  I did go to the ER once for it and everything was fine.  My OB said this can be normal for some people during pregnancy as long as I wasn't feeling faint, dizzy or having chest pain while my heart was beating fast or palpitating.  Sorry you are going through this try to relax and take some deep breaths while it is happening and see if that helps.  GDLK!
