My doctor told me I have this today at my appointment. She was very stern with me and told me I need to slow down. She said they aren't going to put me on bedrest yet, but over this weekend to rest 2 hours in morning and 2 hours in evening. She has scheduled me to recheck my bp on Monday morning, weekly ultrasounds now as well. I asked if my reading came back good on Monday did I really have anything to worry about. She said this is by no means the end of my worries and that it will probably get worse, we just want to aim to get another 4 weeks. Can anyone tell me what their experience has been with this...did things get worse or can they get better? I guess I am kind of in disbelief with how bad she made it sound because I am very healthy. Maybe she is trying to scare me into following her orders? Any experience or advice would be much appreciated.
Re: Gestational Hypertension
Hi
I had GH the last two months of my pg. It was awful, every week I went in for a check and it was a little higher. By the time I delivered I was 180/99. I made it to 38 wks 4 days and went into labor on my own--it started at 1:45 am Sunday morning and I delivered 12:51 pm Monday. If I had not gone into labor on my own we were going to schedule induction that week because of my high BP. When I went in to L&D I was so swollen from water retention they could not find a vein to give me an IV. They checked me a million times for pre-eclampsia and liver/kidney failure. I was thankful that did not become an issue. It did take almost eight weeks before my BP got back down to normal after L&D. It was a little scary.
My BFP Chart
Can I ask what your bp was and what is normal for you? With DS, I developed GH at 14 weeks and was put on meds. Around 32 weeks, they had to increase my dosage, but I never developed pre-e and I had a totally uneventful delivery. I did have bi-weekly NSTs and monthly u/s to check DS' growth.
I think, at this point in your pregnany, being healthy really doesn't matter. I never developed pre-e, but my much skinner, much healthier SIL got it at 38 weeks.
Good luck!
The diastolic reading which is the one they were concerned with was 100 and 2 weeks earlier it was 86...and the doc said that it has been gradually increasing over time. Normally I am somewhere in the 110/70-75 range.
I was saying the exact same thing the other day about being healthy. Apparently it really doesn't matter. I am hoping I don't have to be put on bed rest later on and that if I need it, medication will be able to help.
