2nd time Mommies re: car seat & stroller

OK this is a silly question... but I kept DDs car seat for future children, it's a Graco and gender neutral... I never had a travel system, I used the snap and go. Once DD was out of the carrier, she went into our Maclaren.  DD will be 3 next month and I'm due for DD#2 in August.  Should I get a double stroller?  The "problem" is that I can't find a double stroller to "match" the car seat.  Am I being ridiculous, or should I just get another car seat and matching double, and use the car seat I have as an extra for DH's car?  I know DD will be 3, but I'm thinking she'll still need a stroller for long walks, vacation, etc for the next year or so.

  • We didn't get a double stroller when we had Natalie and Olivia was almost 3.  But, we're getting one now:)    I wouldn't worry too much about the carseat and stroller matching.
  • Loading the player...
  • personally i wouldnt. my son has been out of the stroller since before he was 3. maybe get a double umbrella stroller. i wouldnt get a huge one tho. but if you go on lots of longs walks and vacations and feel you need one then may you should.
  • I wouldn't worry about the double stroller and infant carrier matching.

Every child is different. My nearly 4 yr old son has hated being stuck in a stroller for some time now. A double would be a waste of money for us. But if your LO is more passive and loves the stroller... go for it!   GL!

  • With that age difference, I'd probably skip it.  DS#1 was only two when #2 was born, so not really at that point when we could trust him to walk with us well yet.  At 3, he probably could have.

That said, my almost 4 year old does still ride on the jump seat of our double stroller from time to time.  He's better about walking, but he's so slow, it's nice to have the option sometimes.

  • It depends on your needs. We used the double all the time since we take it to the zoo and theme parks where we stay all day. I would use the same car seat no matter what, and not worry about matching. They are in it for such a short time that it won't matter much.

  • We are not getting another infant car seat, but we are going to get a double stroller (I am looking at Graco so that our car seat fits). I do not care that they match.

Another option, since your DD is a lot older than mine, you can get the sit and stand stroller. I would get one if DD was older.

  • I plan to just carry LO#2 in a carrier and keep DS in a stroller for awhile.  We have a Bugaboo so I have the choice between the car seat attachment or the regular seat...so one can always be in the stroller and one will be carried or walk with me.  Since we're due in September, I feel like this should work because by November we'll be out walking a lot less.  Come Spring we'll re-evaluate and see if we need a double or if we can get by with buying the skateboard attachment for the back of the stroller (similar to the sit and stand, which may work for you also).

  • Olivia will be just about three when baby #2 is born.  I think I am going to get the baby trend tandem sit and stand.  The second seat comes off to make it a sit and stand. It seems to be the best option, as I don't think O is going to be in a stroller for that much longer.
  • im not a second time mom.. this is my first but i thought i would throw an ideal.....

since she will be old and i was reading the graco car seat snap in great... it sounds like it would work great for you...

it comes in three colors you could probably see the other on there... feel free to let me know what you think

  • my DS will be 3 1/2 when baby is born and i plan to get a sit n' stand, although i don't even think i'll buy it until next spring!  (unless i get a good deal or something).  i'm not due 'til oct. and live in the midwest, but your weather is fairly similar.  you could just use a carrier for 2-3 months when you want to walk outside and have your LO in your reg. stroller.

my (almost) 3 year old still loves to sit in a stroller and i go on a lot of long walks for exercise.  there's no way i could stand to walk at his slow pace, so i'm def. getting a double stroller at some point.

  • I am a first timer...but have friends who rave about this one....https://www.joovy.com/pages/pd_caboose.php
