Re: Are these names to popluar?

  • I do not think that that they are too popular. I think they are both strong, beautiful traditional names. I really like Amelia!

  • I really like them.   I don't worry to much about popular names, though.
  • IMO, Olivia is. But at some point you have to throw out popularity for what you and DH really love.  Thats what we had to do.

They are sweet names together though.

  • I dont think either of those names are too popular... and yes I like them I think they are pretty!
  • I think Olivia is pretty popular.

Does it matter to you? Do you care if your kid starts kindergarten with 3 kids with the same name? If not, then don't worry about it.

  • i think it depends where you live. Olivia is really popular around here. we named DD Gianna,(born 4.4.10) and i have only met one other Gianna in my life, 6yrs ago. at the hospital they asked me her name and they said "oh, another Gianna..."  so i bet in kindergarden no matter how differernt i thought the name was there will probably be at least 2 Gianna's in the class.
  • I've heard of a lot of Olivia's the past few years..but Amelia is very pretty and not quite as trendy! Either way they're both beautiful names.

  • I don't think they are too popular. I Amelia better than Olivia.
  • I love Amelia : )  And every Olivia I know is an absolute sweetheart.  I think they are both middle of the line popular names.  Not too popular though, if you love them then use them.  I had to ditch a name that I love love love....if I were having a little girl, because it got way to popular, I'm talking like 3 kids in a classroom with the same name popular.  I'm hoping in the next few years when we start thinking about having another one, the popularity will have died down a bit.

  • I think they are way overused...I like them but would not name my kids those names because they would always be known as "Amelia B." or "Olivia B." in school and I hate that (I had a common name and it wasn't that pleasant to have at least 2 other people in every class with the same name).

  • Have you thought of Amelia and Alivia?

Yes, I suggested that but DH's name is spelled a different way (Cameryn instead of Cameron) so even before we thought of namess he said he needs the names to be spelled traditionaly.

  • I love the names. Olivia is too popular for my taste though.
  • Depends on where you live. I don't know anyone with those names, or who has named their child those names, except for one girl named Amelia and she's a teenager.   :)

Don't look at the stats on this message board either... look at it more from a personal perspective.  Are there other Amelias and Olivias in your church, neighborhood, support group,  etc?

  • I like both names.  I think Olivia is very popular, though.  Amelia isn't quite as popular, I don't believe.  Cute names, though!
  • They're both beautiful names.  I don't know of any Amelias personally (but have seen it a lot on message boards, hospital birth announcements, etc.) and I know at least 6 Olivias (ages 6 mos-7 years old).

  • I would say Olivia is very popular and Amelia is on an upwards trend - but both names are very pretty and it should stop you from using them if you really like them.
