So I know I'm not a super regular, but I did visit the board often enough to know some of you guys so I wanted to update everyone. Below is my "I'll try to make it short" birth story which I failed at making short, lol.
All day Wednesday I was having a lot of pressure. I dropped Brittyn off at MIL's in the morning and went to visit Tim at work. They had two workers call off so I worked for an hour or so and I kept telling Tim "I know it's crazy but today feels like the day. Something is different and there is just so much pressure." Of course his response was "You can NOT have this baby this weekend I am swamped at work." LOL!
So I came home and finished packing my hospital bag and B's bag and got Brittyn from MIL's. After B and Tim went to church that evening I took a walk bc I was just having so much pressure but when I called L&D to ask about it they said that unless contractions were closer than 5mins apart to not bother to come in.
At 10PM they were about that and I called again and they said "honestly with your history of contractions this time, I'd just get a good night's sleep and see where you're at in the morning". So I took a shower.
Around midnight I was uncomfortable and having contractions still about every 5mins but they were strong and hurt. I called L&D and said I'm coming in. I just want to get checked and if I'm still the same you don't have to bother with monitoring me I'll just go home, but I don't feel like these are nothing. I had Tim stay home since B was in bed and I figured I'd just be back home in an hour anyways.
At 1:30AM I arrived at the hospital and they checked me. I was 5 cm and 75% and contractions were still strong. My OB was on duty but asleep. They woke him up and he said that he knew I was tired so they were going to push IVs and if that didn't immediately fizzle out the contractions that I would be staying to have a baby. It didn't make them fizzle.
I called Tim and told him to get our bags, call his mom, but take his time bc the OB wasn't going to check me until morning. He was in my room within 5mins (we live 8mins away!).
I tried to get some sleep with a Nubaine (sp?) and it helped me relax enough but I never did go to sleep. It also made me very very dizzy, but it's a common side effect.
At 6AM the OB came in and said he was going to check me. Occassionally while having a contraction Eden's HB would dip just a teeny bit and he didn't like that. Since I was so close and the HB bothered him he broke my water but said that that was all that he was allowed to do since I wasn't full term.
At 7AM my favorite nurse came on shift! She was amazing. There were 5 girls in labor plus 4 girls on recovery side and she never left my side. She watched me like a hawk every time my OB came in and spoke up all the time.
At 8AM the contractions were coming very strong but I was still only 5 cm. I told them that I wanted pain meds but I didn't want an epi bc I didn't want to slow labor down. I got some more Nubaine and we talked and I opted to get an intrathequal (very similar to a spinal and the difference from an epi is that it takes effect immediately and wears off fast (~2hrs) and you can get up to three).
At about 10AM I couldn't wait any longer, though I was still at a 5, and got the intrathequal. Within 30 mins I went to an 8. At about 10:40AM I said "Jennifer, I know it's crazy but I feel like I need to push." She took one look at me and said "Hunny do NOT push. We need to get the table set up and get your doc in here! I do not want to deliver another of your babies!" I literally had to hold my legs closed and force myself not to push.
OB came in the room and sat down and told me to push. I gave one big push and her head was out. Then he had me to do some little pushes and big pushes and kept making me stop bc once her head was out she didn't turn like she was supposed to so he had to rotate her the other way. She was born at 10:45AM.
Her face is pretty bruised up bc of the fast labor. OH and when I was pushing the nurse said "Her head is out, but her body is still under your boob!" and had to push her bottom out which was still so high.
She has been a champion nurser and she has only cried once when they forced her to after she was born. She didn't for shots or blood draw or being naked. It's so different from Brittyn!!!
She is content to just lay beside me, again something Brittyn would not allow as a newborn.
Brittyn seems to like her pretty well, something I was not prepared for. She calls her Baby E and even gives her kisses.
Thursday night I sent Tim home to get a good night's sleep and I was at the hospital alone. I didn't know how that would go but Eden slept from 10:30PM to when the nurse woke me up at 7AM and I in turn woke Eden up.
She looks JUST like my baby pictures. When I was in labor we were still undecided as to what her middle name would be and when we saw her we knew it would be Eden Fawn (my middle name) bc she looks so much like me and my dad's side of the family.
Last night was our first night home and it went really well. She started out in her crib, slept there until close to 3AM, and then when she wanted to nurse then I just brought her in bed with us and she slept there until I got up at 9AM.
And just one picture for you guys.
