Babies: 9 - 12 Months

sorry, a quick diaper sizing question

maybe I'm clueless, but how do you know when to go up a size? DS is currently wearing Luvs 3 stage (16-22lbs I believe??), and he's 17lbs 14oz. We also use Pampers Baby Dry at night (stage 3), which are around the same in sizing. I noticed that Pampers stage 4 are start maybe a couple of pounds higher than what DS is.

So, dumb question: do you wait until DC is in the "range", or do you go up a size for another reason??? TIA!

Re: sorry, a quick diaper sizing question

  • Sometimes if there is a lot of blowouts, and it just seems like my daughter isn't fitting in them very well I move up without worrying about what the weight on the diaper is.  It is a guide, not a rule :)

  • I go up a size when there start to be alot of accidents going outside of the diaper or if the diaper isn't holding the amount of pee as well.  I don't worry about the numbers on the packaging.   FWIW, my son always goes up a size right at the beginning of the next weight range on the box or sooner.  He's 21 lbs and has been in size 4 pampers for a while now
  • I move up when it starts sliding down on her butt or I just get the next size up and if it fits better I stick with it and if not I save it for next time

  • DD seems to jump sizes a little bit before the stated range.   She's got chunky thighs and a potbelly and I feel like she outgrows the waist area early.
  • For us it's when we start getting leaks or the tabs on the side are getting a little short.  He has never been in the correct range.  He started wearing size 4's just under 17lbs and is now on his way to 5's at almost 22lbs 10oz (and wears a size 5 in Baby Dry's at night, they must run smaller than Cruisers).
  • I don't go by the weight range at all.  J has been in size 3 for at least 3 months and he's not quite 19 lbs.

  • The weight ranges are irrelevant for us -- DD always needs to move up before she should, based on the weight. She can also still fit into diapers long after it's time to move up. She starts getting blow outs when it's time to move up. I actually recently ran across a stash if Pampers Swaddlers in size 2. She grew out of those months ago! I didn't want to waste them, so I used them. They fit fine -- not too tight at all -- but I had to make sure she'd just pooped because if she'd pooped in them, the blow outs would have been impressive!!
