1st Trimester

Have to find new dr, freaking out/vent

So I went for my 1st official prenatal today, all excited, only to find out that not only was I already double-booked but the dr I was supposed to see was off delivering a baby (which IS good) but no one called me to tell me she cancelled all her appts today! So...no visit, no sonogram, don't know how my labs are, no nothing. :(

I tried to reschedule but she's now booked until mid-May...the receptionist offered another doc but couldn't get me in to see her until May 3. I'll almost be done w/1st tri by then!!!!! WTF!

So I came home and cried b/c I'm all frustrated and now I'm going to have to call my cousins nearby and tell them that I'm pregnant b/c I want to know if they can recommend their dr even though I wanted to keep this under wraps until I found out everything is definitely OK. I'm really afraid a new dr won't be able to get me in until May either and I really want someone to check me NOW! DH and mom are telling me to just relax which is really hard to do when you don't have a dr. Have any of you run into this kind of problem? Is this common or is it OK that I'm freaking out?

He's growing up, but he'll always be my baby!

  • Where are you in Chicago?

  • I'm going to nurse midwives and they didn't want to see me at all until pretty late- I thought.  It will be 2 days before 11 weeks when I go for the first time.

I have a fertility accupuncturist I go to every week and while totally not the same thing- I am reassured by being able to talk to her.

Do you have a local board on The Bump for your area?  Maybe you could post there and see if other woman in your area can recommend good doctors...... just a thought if you really don't want to tell the rest of the fam

That is very frustrating... sorry about that.

  • After my first few visitis I found out that one) my doc was an as$hole, and two) they did not take my insurance. Go on Google and look up docs in your area and read reviews. You also can get your labs from your old doc and take them to your new doc so they don't have to be done again. Hope that helps, sorry you are going through this. Good luck.
  • Unfortunately this WAS my regular GP (who is also my GYN)...their recommendation was the May 3 dr. Seriously!

I'm on the North side of Chicago (Ravenswood) so I'm going to hop over to the local board and ask for their recs too.

    Thanks for listening...

  • I know a lot of girls see Dr. Song at Northwestern.  I don't know the number or anything, but I am sure you can google it.

  • I go to to Gaye Kococins at Evanston Northwestern (I think it is NorthShore University Health now)  She is a Midwife, but I love her.
  • I go to Jeremy Miller at Midwest Center for Women's HealthCare in Evanston and I LOVE him.  I just made my 1st appt and they were able to get me in within 10 days.

  • Thanks, I'll try some of these others! I already called Women's Group of Northwestern, which was recommended on the Chicago board, but they have to get their office manager's approval since I'll be >10 weeks as of next week.
