If u had a late crawler...

What do u think finally did the trick? There was a post a few days ago where people were mentioned their babies crawled around 20 months or so. My 17 month old has been in PT almost 7 months and still has zero desire to be on her tummy or crawl (she scoots). Nothing has been found wrong, except weak muscles.I just cant imagine what'll ever light the fire under her butt. Thanks!

Re: If u had a late crawler...

  • DD had severe gastro issues that caused her to not tolerate tummy time and as a result she  had weak core muscles. She started therapy at a year and honestly didn't crawl until AFTER she learned to walk (which was also late at 17 months).

  • We got a new PT about a month ago and she told me I need to ignore him and make him come to me for things because I apparently was always close enough to him that he knew he could whine and get me to come over and help him.  She said to be sure to put things he really wanted out of his reach but in his sight.  So sadly, I basically started ignoring him a little bit.  :)  How does that sound for good advice??  :)

  • oh and i was one of those who said he just crawled at 20 months.  :)  and he's crawling more and more as the days go by.  I seriously can just lay him in the floor now and hide in the kitchen and peek in and see him crawling around now.  Its so darn cute.  Of course if I'd stay in there he'd want me to hold him and help him cruise instead.

  • Marley commando crawls so I guess it's not true crawling but the girls gets around amazingly fast!

Really, we didn't do anything. I though she wouldn't crawl and just walk as she loves to stand and hated being on her tummy. And she had no motivation to move. Absolutely nothing interested her. She was fine just looking at things.

then around 21 months she just started scooting on her tummy. Totally random. Now 4 months later she crawls towards anything and everything. Especially paper. The kid LOVES paper.

  • I have heard that if they scooting it will be alot harder to get them to crawl... from a PT on our team.  They have learned a mode of movement that works for them so why should they change it and have to work harder (their point of view).  We did alot of rocking with them on all 4s.  So we'd put them in the crawling position and rock them back and forth to get the movement going.  We also did alot of other movement activities like bouncing on the ball, rolling around on the ball... I don't know what really helped or if it was just maturity.
