3rd Trimester

Birth Story: successful VBAC

My water broke on April 5th around 11:45am, I had been cleaning the house and was just getting into the car to go to my last docs appt before my induction the next day! I felt a gush and though, hmm tht was weird...so DH told me to go check, and sure enough it was my water. I was shocked!! I was 39wks 5 days. So, we head to L&D. When I got there I was 3.5cm and about 90% effaced. If was also discovered there was meconium. By 6pm there had been little change, I was only 4. So they started pitocin and I got an epidural. by 10pm, still no change! So the doc told me I could keep trying or call it a night and have a repeat c-sec....I was exhausted adn contemplated it, but decided to keep going. They upped my pitocn as much as they could for a VBAC and my nuse was amazing, flipping me around every 15mins to get things moving along. By 1am I was comple, and she had me start pushing. at 2am, she was finally crowning...and my doc was called in, I could feel all the pressure of her coming out, and some vaginal pain, especially when her head was about to come out I could feel how tight of a fit it was and thought " I am going to be hurting !!!" so a few more pushes and she was born at 2:23am. I got to see her coming out and it was amazing!! She was taken away immediately to he NICU team to get suctioned..she had tubes coming out of her everywhere!!! but when they were finally done she let out a good cry. It took the doc about 30mins to sew me up, I tore in 4 different places, but not my perineum..my labia, and around my urethra...yea, it HURTS. LOL  She weighed 8lbs 15oz!!!! and was 20in long. We only stayed in the hospital tuesday, I was ready to go home!!

In the end I am SO GLAD I did a VBAC, the next day I could get up and walk around the minimal pain, and take care of my baby. I couldn't do that with #1. I also loved being able to see her being born and being active in her birth.  this is our 2nd full day home and thigns are pretty much routine for us, I suppose since we've done it all before with #1 but its definately different this time around. DD#1 loves her sister and is so excited to see her everyday after school.

Good luck to all you mommas, and anyone considering a VBAC, it was wonderful.
